How long Does a Dog stay In Heat?

My Female Mix Breed, Red Heeler/German Shepard, had and appointment to get spaid last Wednesday but she ended up going into heat On Wednesday! Of course they cant do it when theyre in heat. It has been 6 days now and she's still in heat! It feels like forever, this is her second time in heat. And shes Really, really swollen. How long does a dogs Heat last?
Thanks!

It's three weeks (21 days) give or take a day or so. But watch out! Because it's the MIDDLE WEEK when they can so easily get pregnant. Then they will try anything to get to a male dog, they will jump fences....wriggle underneath things to get out, etc. And once they are mated and they "tie together" it's too late! Preggers doggy! And that can happen in just a minute or two. Dogs don't mess about! lol.

Well they bleed a little more during the first week (should still only be drops though -any more and there's something wrong)
N.B. Make sure you have red rugs in the house LOL!!

Then when they are ready for mating the vulva will swell quite a lot more, and the bleeding not be so obvious.

Many people have said that there is no bleeding after this (for the 3rd week) but with my dog all her life she used to bleed a little bit still afterwards...but very slight, and a different colour, much lighter. (She's been spayed now but I had years of noticing her heat cycles, so am used to it)

WOW! 3 weeks! Does the dog bleed the whole 3 weeks too?! Thats crazy about the jumping fenses and digging wiggling under stuff! Wow! Im sure itll be a good idea to keep her inside anyways, and comfortable. Gosh! If I had only scheduled the spaying a week earlier!!
