My lab is showing signs of pain at her back

My lab just started showing signs of pain when you pet her at her back. We tried to check it but she becomes protective and yelps .  I did see some red blotchng.  Is this serious?

Bring him to the vet immediately! He seems to be in such serious condition. He will surely undergo series of test to determine his painful condition.

Red blotching could be anything from hot spots to a broken back. If she is protective and yelping, please take her to a vet. You need a medical assessment. I know x rays can be pricey, but only a vet can tell you if she needs them or not. Better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck!! I have been in the pet industry for over 25 years, and I really think you should get a medical opinion. Will say a prayer for you!
