So very sorry for your sudden loss. Losing a pet is a grief I would wish on no one! My sister had a dog that died suddenly while her son was out walking him. Healthy one minute too. Was this dog purchased from a breeder or an ad? Alot of those dogs have hidden health problems. I hope you can cope with your grief and when the time is right, go to a local shelter and adopt another one. There is room in your heart and home. I adopted another cat a few months after the loss of my long time companion cat passed, and it really helped keep my mind off of the sadness. My condolences to you and your family.
I have been there with my precious dog whom I found dead. My late Mother said 'Every Dog has a special place in your heart'. She also said:You gave that dog a good life didn't you? We did. I bought another dog soon after which helped but Becky is nearly 10 now so a new puppy is coming on Friday!
Dogs are very special, they give unconditional love.
Hope this helps, In my thoughts.
It has to be hard to have sink in after losing a pet so fast, it would have been so unexpected. Like ginger899 said, at least you didn't have to see Tasha suffer, which believe me, is horrible. After losing a pet, you hate to walk by their favorite place where they slept, and you swear you can hear them barking to greet you when you come home. There are so many memories, but that is good cause you don't want to forget your best bud. Things will get better, don't give up on the idea of another pet, there are too many that need rescuing from Humane Societies from good owners like you, perhaps a kitten.
Our pets can die suddenly for the same reasons that people do. Sudden heart attack, stroke, ruptured aneurysm - you name it. If there is any blessing in these situations it is that your dog did not have to suffer. I know for myself, given a choice, I'd rather be felled quickly and never know what happened.
If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times. People who share their lives with animals are special people. Why? Because we take them into our lives and love them knowing we are likely to endure the pain of losing them. Yet, we keep on doing it. Not everyone can.
You obviously loved your pup to distraction, which means you were an excellent and responsible pet owner. I pray that once you have time to grieve this loss, you will once again find the joy in opening your heart to another lucky dog. Nothing ever replaces the one who leaves us, but the human heart is large enough to love another pet for its own sake. That's one reason we always have two dogs. After losing one, loving the remaining one gets us through the loss. God bless you. It WILL get better with time.
Oh my.....I know how horrible this is. There is no remedy for the pain of loss like that. The only possible comfort you could have was that your little Tasha didn't have to suffer any kind of long illness, loss of joy, loss of mobility, or even have to go through old age, with its problems. But I know that doesn't really help. It seems an added tragedy to be taken in the peak of health and fitness. It makes no sense.
I am so terribly sorry about your loss. Dogs bring so much to us, something really special and irreplaceable. There is such an echoing silence when they are suddenly not there.
I have no idea what she could have died of. And I know those questions "How?" "Why?"...will never be answered. Only an autopsy (necropsy it is called in the case of a dog) -would have given some clue. God bless you all in this really sad time.
