I found out that what my dog has is called cherry eye. A friend who is also a groomer, said she has seen it many times. What it actually is, is the tear duct had popped out,. I was ready to call the vet this morning, when I noticed it was gone. As I said in my previous post, it happened the same way one other time. I suspect it will happen again. It seems the only solution is surgery, and they can't guarantee that it won't come back, in fact it will probably happen in the other eye. I will wait and see if and when it happens again, because surgery will cost me some bucks.Anyone else ever deal with this?
It's always a good idea to have a vet give you a proper diagnosis before embarking on any treatment yourself. One, you don't want to make the problem worse; and two, if it ends up being something serious it will only get more expensive to correct the longer you wait. I hope your little poodle is OK! :-)
Is it on the eye itself? It is probably a popped blood vessel from a strain....however, I would bring her to the vet just in case...
Hello again. I just wanted to mention that I just tried to move this clump out of my dog's eye and it is quite hard. It isn't softening or moving at all. I think maybe a trip to the vet might be in order?
This is normal for the breed. The tear ducts can get clogged up if the eyes aren't cleaned on a daily basis. It's very simple to clean the eyes, just use a soft cloth and warm water and gently ease the clump, not clot, off. But you'll have to do this daily and sometimes you have to get in there with your finger nails and just pull it off, but if you soften it enough before hand, you may not have to go that route.
What color is your dog? I ask this because with the white and lighter colored ones, the tears and saliva have the ability to stain the fur.
Hope this helps and get back to me to let me know how he's doing.
