New puppy throwing up

We have an 8 week old puppy now.  She is half black lab and half german short hair.  She had a long ride home(over 3 hrs) and has been throwing up.  It is the foamy looking stuff.  She is drinking water.  Will she get over this or do we need to get something for her tummy?  I havent put any food down for her yet.  She is still pretty scared in her new surroundings.  It has been a long time since i had a little one around........

It's so wonderful. She has made a very quick recovery. That has to be because you caught it early, didn't delay getting her treatment, and she is a tough little thing!
Having Parvo will probably mean you will have to adjust her vaccinations when the time comes for them. You need to ask the vet about this. She may not need the Parvo shot 1st year?? I am not sure, but don't think so.

The fact that my dog got Parvo when she was young hasn't harmed her at all over the years. She does seem to have a good strong immune system.

OK....let the fun begin! (Can't wait to see pics of this pup!)

That's GREAT news!  Luckily for Miss Cali, you were on top of the situation and didn't let things go to far before taking her to the vet!  I'm so happy for all of you!  :D

Oh do i have an update!!!  Miss Cali is digging at her pen, barking and screaming this morning!!!!  She also ate a few bites of some special type food that is high in calories and protein i think the vet said....He said she was going to make it thru this and we caught it early.  I didnt know she made noise other than vomiting!!  Sounds like she will get to come home tomorrow afternoon as they will keep giving her fluids.  I am so excited and this is the best news i could get today.....I was up and down all night expecting the phone to ring.  I do have the cleanest most sterile house in town tho!!!!!!   sara

She is more lethargic tonight when i called the vet but they said this is common for them to get worse.  My vet will be with her all night so that is a comfort.  I hope this little girl is a fighter....How do you get so attached to a little thing in just one day.  My heart goes out to those other puppies from the litter....we are trying to get ahold of the guy we got her from but he seems to not be answering.  His website is also down.  I am thinking he knows....Our vet has been given his name and number also.

I have been busy cleaning, bleaching and washing everything in sight.  The beagle should be okay since she has always had her shots......and now we wait some more.......

Sarah, I am so very sorry this has happened! I am saying a prayer for Miss Cali and you. I hope she will get through this OK. She is definitely in the best place, they will take the best care of her. My dog had Parvo years ago before I rescued her. She had a hard time, but survived it. I do so hope your little one comes through alright too.

You now need to find out what cleaning procedures you need to do. I have forgotten the details, but it is quite strict. You probably don't feel like doing all that right now, but it is urgent.

You and Miss Cali are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless

Oh no! Sarah, I'm so sorry! I will definitely be praying. I know Parvo can be pretty bad. I hope they caught it early and that she'll be ok. What about your other dog? Will he have to be treated since he was exposed? Please keep us updated and I will start praying right now! God bless you, my friend.

There was blood in her stool this morning so Miss Cali has a doctors appt at 11:15.  They mentioned intestinal parasites so i am bringing a sample in.  Once this little one feels better i am sure life will be completely different!!!!  Thank you for your comments......Will keep you posted on what they find out.       sara

Congratulations on your new addition!

I'm thinking it's probably just an attack of nerves, a combination of taking the puppy away from the only home it has known in its short life, away from its mother and littermates, and maybe a little carsickness involved as well.

Whenever you acquire a new puppy, even if it appears to be in perfect health, making an appointment with your own vet to have an introductory examination done should be the first thing on your list to do.  So even if the puppy is fine in the morning, call your vet and make an appointment to have him completely vetted.  Take a stool sample with you because most puppies have worms, and even if the breeder wormed the litter, it's best to have them run a fecal exam to make sure the puppy is free of internal parasites.  Internal parasites can cause a puppy to vomit, so since you're experiencing this with him today, make sure he doesn't need to be wormed.  Being wormy can really drag a puppy down and make them dull and listless, make their coat look dry and ragged, and give them a pot-bellied appearance and just be generally unthrifty-looking,  However, even if they LOOK perfectly fine, they can still be carrying an internal parasite load.

Please post back and let us know what the vet says about your new baby.  And post some pictures!  We'd love to see him!!

No gagging or coughing.  It is white foamy stuff.  I called my vet and they said to give her some peptol bismol.  That seems to be helping.  This is a ton of stress on this little one right now.  Tomorrow should be better.  Thank you ginger.......

It is possible that the car journey just made her nauseous. It's very common in pups, and usually passes as they get used to car journeys, and even get to enjoy them!

It could be nervousness. 8 weeks is fine to leave her litter and mother, but as you can imagine, a bit of a shock for her. She still has to get used to your family and her new surroundings.

But be on watch with her, because there could be a few causes for this foamy vomit. What colour is this? White? or yellowish?
Is she gagging, coughing? Hacking up? That could be kennel cough.
If not, is she showing any signs of being unwell? Apart from obviously being disoriented by the situation, and probably tired?

If she keeps vomiting, shows any unwell signs or symptoms, refuses food, or eats, and that comes up too, then I wouldn't hesitate to take her to be checked over at the vet's ASAP.
