Pom's back legs

I have a Pom who is 11 and healthier than a 2 year old..I have 3 Pom's actually. I feed my dogs all organic: Chicken breast, collard green, peas, carrots, green beans and some mixed veg, bison heart, bison liver , apple cider vinegar, apple sauce and blue berries...I get the veggies frozen and the meat fresh, I cook it and grind it all together , this is what they eat...I have had no problems, but my little girl Susie has started loosing the use of her back right leg and the vet said it was neurological...but her labs showed her Albumin at 1.8 and the calcium was quit low...Her back leg does not always do this , just when ever..also she has had a few seizures in the last 6 months lasting about 1 min long, this happens when her albumin gets low, she also develops diarrhea...so doc gives her a shot of predisone and .25mg of pred to take every day for 2 weeks, and some metronitazole for the diarrhea...ok this is the normal routine when her albumin gets low , but now the leg thing is added in, so what is up with this, I am sitting here crying surfing the net trying to find someone to talk to about this...please help me...please...signed Loni

I would definitely get any intestinal issues investigated properly.

The reason is this:
Calcium binds to albumin (a form of protein) in the blood stream, and so if albumin levels are low, so calcium will be. A quite common cause of this can be intestinal problems in which either protein is not absorbed, or is lost again through the intestines.

I would also get a complete blood screening for her. To check kidney pancreas, and liver function, and also get her thyroid checked. And take a urine sample to check if there is an unusual amount of protein in her urine.

I had two poms, one the traditional fox looking one and the other a toy black and white. The black and white had a problem with her hind leg coming out of socket from time to time. She would be fine one minute then the next, walking on three legs. In the poms, hip problems are pretty common I understand. I would not let her jump up and down from too high of spaces like the couch as that seemed to bring it on. I dont know if this might be one of the issues with your little one but thought I would throw it out there just in case. Mine were also very suseptable to sugar issues and when ever one of mine would get hold of something they should not have it was an attack of diahrea, like you wouldnt believe. My little black and white died of it so be very careful.

I don't have a good idea of what could be wrong with your dog, but I can sympathize with you because I know it is so hard to see our dogs hurting or sick.  Is it possible she has arthritis?  We would give our dog Dermax only when she had a problem, and it worked well.  Good Luck, I hope you find out what her problem is.
