Palladia

Hello,

I had to put my 10 year old Yorkie down last night and it was the worst experience of my life. She had a ton of health issues but was doing quite well until actually Sunday night. She had multiple health issues, an enlarged heart and liver, CHF, mast cell tumor with cells in her blood, a nerve issue in her spinal cord, and lastly they diagnosed her with stage 4 renal failure.

I have a question to those who have given their pets Palladia, an oral chemo for mast cell tumors. I had to take Ruby to a two week follow up appointment and her kidney values were high since starting the chemo, but the chemo was working. However, I gave her Pallida a couple of hours prior to that. We lowered her dosage and was told to go back in two weeks for another check up. Sunday night she started just laying around and really hadn't drank or eat anything for several days. Monday morning I was able to give her some boiled chicken and she ate some. I made an appointment that day to take her to the vet since I was concerned about dehydration and the lack of appetite. They did blood work to check her kidney values and they were even higher than just a week or so ago. They told me she was in stage 4 kidney failure and I should euthanize her. She also had mild pancreatis and was anemic.

Has anyone experienced administering Palladia and then a couple of hours having lab work done which showed higher levels in the Kidneys? I made the mistake of giving her Riymadyl for inflammation on her back. She had five doses, but the oncologist said it is hard on kidneys and along with the combination of Palladia it possibly hurt her kidneys.

I am trying to find an answer to all my guilt. Just curious if anyone has experienced this before.

No I am sorry but I haven't had any experience with this drug.

But I would just like to give you my heart felt condolences about the passing of your sweet girl.
From what you have described, you tried very hard to help her and give her the best treatment. You didn't give up on her even though she had so many serious issues.
I do know that generally chemo drugs can be harsh on the system, for humans as well as dogs. It can be hard enough when the dog is fit otherwise, but it's possible your girl reached a 'tipping point' in her health and her body couldn't take any more of anything.

Your love for her is obvious, and all that you did to help her.

Bless her Soul.

Thank you. I just wish I could hold her one more time.
