Spring/Summer Skin Allergies

This boy is Mr Mugsy. Hes a 1 yr 9 mo old pitbull/mastiff mix. For the second season in a row Mugsy's skin gets riddled with bumps and hives all over his body. It looks almost like acne for a teenager. His belly gets very red as well and irritated. The skin gets dry and hair falls out more easily. I know it has to be allergies due to it coming back every spring season.

My biggest question would be- What should I do to hydrate his skin and slow down/prevent future irritation?
He is currently on a hydrocordizone spray and gets bi weekly oatmeal baths with special mineral salt scrub? ( my girlfriend is a groomer).

He also gets salmon oil in his food which he has taken all winter and hydrates the coat.

If you have any input or advice feel free to throw it out there for him!

Thank you,

Peter and Mr Mugsy

Looks s like it might be seborrheaic (sp?) dermatitis with the allergen as the root cause. I had an English Bulldog that had the same thing.  The vet has some specific shampoos that may help this or you can try a human dandruff shampoo, maybe alternating with the soothing oatmeal baths. Gold Bond medicated baby powder can also help soothe the skin and itching, while keeping it dry so yeast doesn't set in.

Good luck, it may be a lifelong struggle :(

Sounds like you are already doing all you can for your dog.  Maybe another idea would be to try keeping inside the house more, for less exposure to allergens outside.  Blessings - Blu
