Sounds like you have a responsible Vet considering he had you contact the owner of the litter ate. Kudos to him!! Could be a genetic problem or an anesthesia problem. A couple if examples - Greyhounds are very sensitive to anesthesia and a certain protocol has to be followed. When I had a Grey, and fostered, I made sure I supplied my Vet with the information to keep in the dig's files.
I had a litter of Sheltie pups one that were reacting to all shots. A lot of research goes into breeding before the fact and there was no history of a problem. I made sure every puppy buyer had this information so precautions could be taken and a couple of their new Vets called to thank me and discuss it. Probably just some combination with that breeding and it sure was never repeated!
Maybe this might be the case with this pup. Hope all works out!
Vet is unsure if genetic, stress of surgery or possibly the anesthesia. He did have us contact her litter mate that we knew of to warn of possible issue. Luckily we called them the day before he was to be neutered. I hope all went well for them. I find myself caught between hope and terrified. I am hopeful due to all she has overcome so far, but terrified at any moment she could go backwards.
Add my thoughts and prayers to the list!
I am rooting for her, and hope she comes through fine.
This is a horrible experience for you all.
What, in the vet's opinion, is the CAUSE? The drugs? The anesthetic? Or co-incidence?
Thank you for the updates......I've been wondering about her (And you) today......I so hope she continues to heal, daily.....Great job on your part, by the way!...Keep us updated...We're still praying here! :) Karla
Well she has made it through the critical part. Tests look good. Still gave a long road ahead of us with daily treatments and weekly blood tests. Hoping she continues improving and thus was just an acute attack and she has a long healthy life. We will be by her dude to make that happen. Thanks again!
Thoughts and prayers are being sent.
Well she is still fighting. Vet gave her a 60/40 (not in her favor) chance today. Considering yesterday was 80/20 today is better. All depends if it us chronic or acute. Acute she can beat. I haven't left her side. I am hoping my presence is helping her fight.
I'm praying for her, too! Let us know, Karla
So very sorry to read this. Prayers on the way she pulls through.
Hugs
Vet just ran blood test again. She is in liver and kidney failure. Hoping it us acute and she rally's to beat it. I plan to stay with her and encourage her fight. Thanks for all the feedback! Now we need positive thoughts and prayers.
Sorry, what is the antibiotic she is on? Maybe an allergic reaction to it!
What was the Pain med she was taking after her spay? Are you still giving it?
IMO, Something is poisoning her????? What are you feeding her? What was the shot for inflammation? Name should be on your receipt...Did she also get the same shot during her spay? That may be your culprit!!!! Karla
Thanks for your comments. I did take her back to the vet. He did an X-ray and her stomach and intestines are very inflammed. No foreign body is visable either. Still no fever. He gave fluids, nausea med and a shot for inflammation. He plans to repeat in the morning. I left her with my family and just got home to find she now has a tremor in her head. Called vet again. Waiting for call back. She has me very worried.
You should worry anytime your pet refuses food and water for more than 24 hours. And some animals do not react well to the medications given during and after surgery. You can give your dog water with a turkey-baster (slowly so you don't choke him). The bland diet your vet suggested? I do know that a cooked rice and chicken mixture is safe for dogs and least likely to cause nausea. You can try hand-feeding him, as some dogs like the attention and will eat if you do that. God bless you and your dog - Blu
I take it she saw the Vet today then? I am surprised he is not concerned with all the vomiting. She is not drinking either? Sounds like maybe she should be at the Vet's office for observation and IV fluids, at least. I think I would give them a call. If unhappy with the care, see another Vet.
