Thanks for your concern and I really mean that, I wish that they will hurry, because if there is any thing else that I can do that will help my baby i'll do it. she acts like a happy dog with nothing wrong. But things like should she go for walks because my brother been taken her for long walks sometimes and i want to know is that going to make her worse or what ? Or what kind of food is good for her or is there any more meds she may need? That photo of her i just woke her up and she looking like why you wake me mommy, lol. I love her so much!

THANK YOU, YOUR FRIEND IN MICHIGAN

I went over there, too. They will answer soon...In the mean time, I know alittle about heart disease in dogs....It's VERY common in a small breed dog.  So far, I have had 3 toy breeds that have had heart problems. It is NOT a death sentence!
One of my guys took medication for 2 years before he passed. He did NOT die from the heart disease.
My female Bichon I have now, has an enlarged heart (For a couple of years, now), but she does not have heart disease. She has a lung disease like COPD or asthma in humans. Shes doing good on lung medication. Allergies are the trigger for her.
Another of of my guys did die from heart disease. I did not know he had it....There were never any symptoms.
I have a friend who has a dachshund that is 15 and has been on heart meds. for 7 yrs. and doing fine. These are all examples.............
However, you do need to find out why your dog has an enlarged heart. I would recommend a Veterinary Cardiologist. Your Vet should be able to give you some names. Your little one needs a ECG to determine what kind of disease to treat. There are many kinds of heart disease. The last ECG my dog had was $150.00. It was done by a regular Vet and then faxed to a Cardiologist for instructions. My Vet then gave him the proper treatment plan. This is very important!
First-- Heartworms need to be ruled out. They cause enlarged hearts, too. A simple bloodtest from your regular Vet can test for these. Have you had this checked?
The swollen tummy is actually fluid retention and there are other medications that go along with the heart meds. to get rid of the fluid. They are important! They help with the lungs working better and take a load off of the heart.
I don't know if your Vet suggested any of these things, but all are fairly routine. You need to find another Vet (If possible) that will help you with your concerns. It doesn't sound like your Vet explained anything to you. ????
In my experience, none of this was painful for any of my dogs. What did you mean by that? Breathing hard would fit, but actual pain would not! His tummy, was it just really tight or was it really swollen? It makes a difference.....Let me know what you think... Good luck and please keep us updated.......Karla

I just went over there and took a look at your post. There are a few questions there still not answered. I don't know why. I feel for you because you must be very worried right now. I guess there will be an answer soon. Maybe some questions are trickier than others to answer.
I wish I could help, but have absolutely no knowledge at all of your dog's condition (enlarged heart) I have never experienced this, and have no veterinary training.
I do hope you get an answer very soon.
