It can be effective but long term use can cause other problems.

Has your Vet tried to do any testing or possibly try Benadryl!

No , I did not use any flew/tick products. My dog doesn't  have fleas.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the medication (cortisone) seems to be effective, because he stopped scratching himself on the floor.
Thank you Karla for your concern...

No, there are no open sores.I will use the oatmeal shampoo and vinegar rinse to optimize the healing process.I will also ask for Omega 3.
I really appreciate very much your suggestions and kindness!
Thank you so much!  :)

Do you use a topical flea/tick product or shampoo by chance?  Karla

If there are no open sores, you can try bathing in an oatmeal shampoo and use a diluted vinegar rinse.  Let that set on for about 5 mins then rinse off.  Did the Vet mention maybe tripping to add some Omega 3?

The itch is just on his back. There is no hair loss or bad odor. This problem
started 3 days ago and the cortisone seems to be working for now.
If this happens again I'll surely ask the vet for some type of testing.
Thank you Jerry and Margot for your helpful responses...

What itches, feet or all over?

Did the vet mention yeast infection.. is there hair loss or a bad odor?

If seasonal then a temporary antihistamine may be all that is needed.  I, and many others, have used benadryl  for temporary relief in ourselves and dogs.
If may help to wash the dog's feet when it comes in from outside to see if it is picking up something from the ground.

Glad he is only recommending short term use but it is pretty much a Band Aide solution.
You need to get to the cause and that can be tough.  Food is usually the first suspect but you are saying pit is seasonal.  Testing may help narrow it down.

Thank you for answering my post.
No, the vet  recommended the cortisone for just 2 weeks .
If there is no improvement, I will ask about the Benadryl or some type of testing as you suggested.
Thanks again.. :)
