What can you use to detterent SNAKES?
A snake crawled up into my flower beds,,,I do want to kill...I would just like the fella to go on down the road, but I have 5 hyperactive Chihuahua's who would tackle the snake to play with, and get bitten, and the story goes from there...to the vet we go...
So...does anyone have suggestions to keep snake(s) afar??

We had tons of copperheads living under the railroad ties near the hedges. We spent a whole summer relocating them to a far corner of our property. Probably relocated 20 or so.
Just be careful. They are fairly placid unless you step right on them. We never had one even try to strike at us (we scooped them up with a shovel, put them in an empty large kitchen wastebasket, and took them to a nice home with trees, shade, and a stream...far away from the house.
Our dogs have all been bitten at one time or another. Its just the hazards of country life. One of the Dobes was bitten right in the throat when he was 8 weeks old, by a juvenile copperhead. He did swell up some, but was ok. If your animal is bitten, do seek out emergency care. Give your dog a Benadryl (1 mg/pound) while en route to the vet. An animal who has been bitten will also require antibiotics.
We watch where we step when we are back home in the country. If you have a yard with lots of good snake hiding places, clean it up CAREFULLY!

Yea, snakes are dangerous, we would have to careflight to 2 hr hsp away, get venom from Miami to fly here, all at the patient's expense, price tags for snake bites estimate between 80,000 to 150,000, and some health ins, does not pay all....I did tell the silly fool, so today, I am still pouting, it will take time,,,I don't like to see people play w/their lives b/c its not just their lives, it affects all the lives around...So, off to pouting I will go, but I am fixin his favorite dinner, home caught bass fish, LOL (secret: I am glad the snake is gone, and hes still here, hahaha)

LOL! Yeah, you react to snakes the way I do to roaches. YEEEECCHH!! My husband can't stand them either, but he has good reason. He got nailed by a copperhead when he was 17. He was riding his dirt bike in the reservoir and took a break. When he went to put his helmet back on, the snake jumped out of the helmet and bit him on his index finger. He tells me it's not like what you see in the movies where the snake strikes and releases. Nope, that thing hung on and had no intention of letting go. He had to yank it off with his other hand and it was going after anything else it could sink its fangs into.
Luckily he had a friend with him and the hospital was about 20 minutes away. When they reached the ER, the triage nurse asked, "What kind of snake bit you?" Hubby pulls out the lunch bag containing the still-living snake and puts it on her desk. "I've got it right here." The nurse went nuts, and the cop on duty in the ER took it outside and shot it. Only in Texas, right?!
Hubby turned out to be allergic to the antivenin, so all they could do was keep moving the tourniquet up his arm and cutting out the dead tissue. He had 3 fasciotomies on his arm and was hospitalized for over a month. The scarring looks like he was burned because of the widespread necrotized tissue. Tell your husband about this story. Maybe it'll change his mind about playing Snake Handler! ;-)

Oh my God! Just ready this, its creepy, I just have a phobia of snakes, on TV, computer, pictures, and especially LIVE!!!
Last night, Husband comes home, finds the snake, it was a venamous snake, so he plays w/the snake like hes somekind of snake handler getting paid for a show, I lost it, ran in the house and stayed in bedroom, and pouted all night! I do not know forsure what happen to the snake, and don't want to know...I couldn't believe my eyes, my husband on his knees, the snake jumping 2 foot lundges and snappin, I thought I was gonna die...
I am still pist at him...LOL He said, not worry about the snake,,,but I did overhear him and neighbor talkin about someone at work has snakes and hes taken it to him...ewwww!!! So I did call husband on job today to see if he was still alive!!! LOL
I am so sorry, I beleive every one of God's creatures has their position on the earth for a reason, but my lack of snack knowledge I guess is what has my fear, and plus, I would not walk up to a lion or tiger! LOL

I forgot to tell you my one snake horror story that happened many years ago. Hubby was out of town, and I was home supervising some tile work in our guest bathroom. We got a ton of rain that day - so much that the streets flooded for several hours. We had one dog at that time - a cur dog if there ever was one named Travis.
I was just getting out of the shower and dried off when I heard Travis barking. He was focused on the corner where his bed was set up. Immediately, I assumed it was a big roach since the rain brings them out. No way was I sleeping in that room with a roach in the vicinity!
On further investigation, I found a small snake just visible between the carpet and the wall, but he was too wiggly for me to catch him and he darted under the bed. I grabbed a shoe box and a closet dowel to poke him out from under the bed. Sure enough, once he reached the dowel, he put on the speed and followed that dowel right up to my hand. That's when I realized it was a baby copperhead.
I didn't have time to think about it. Using the top of the shoebox as a scoop, I flipped him into the box and slammed the lid on it. That snake went crazy in the box and I could feel him flipping all over in it. I ran screaming at the top of my lungs through the house and out the back door where I flung the entire works out into the night. Once I caught my breath, I realized I was standing in my back yard stark staring naked. :-O

Unfortunately, our lot is just too big to treat with that stuff. We're on the edge of a Federal reservoir, so in addition to snakes we get all kinds of wildlife visitors. I've never had a big aversion to snakes and they keep the mice and rats down. In over 15 years, we've never had rodents in the house thank God!
The one thing that gets my blood pressure up is a flying cockroach, aka: palmetto bug. Those blasted things come flying at your face out of nowhere and get stuck in your hair, and... AAAAHHHHH!!!!!

You can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy "Snake Away", looks like cat litter and smells like moth balls...We found our snake under rock in flower bed, it was a venamous snake...
I wish I knew! I welcome snakes into my yard, but after heavy rains the copperheads show up and usually get trapped in the pool. Can you identify what kind of snake you've got? If he's non-venomous you can always snatch him up in a box and remove him to a better place. That is, if you've got the nerve! :-)
