Why did my dog become sick so FAST?

I had to put my beloved Emmy down yesterday, and I'm searching for answers that led up to what happened.

I came home from work two days ago to see she wasn't acting right. She was walking, drinking kind of alot of water, but completely coherent. I thought maybe she had an upset stomach. I told her I'd take her to the vet in the AM if she didn't show signs of improvement. She wagged her tail at me and I went to sleep.

She got worse, and fast. I took her to the emergency vet the next day. They ran fluids, and gave her an anti vomiting shot, (she threw up a little the night before) and asked if she ingested anything she wasn't supposed to (poison of some sort) which I said no way.. I don't know how she would have. They said if she isn't better by 4 pm to bring her back.

I got home, and put her in my bed and she declined even worse rather quickly. Her breathing became forced or more harsh it seemed, and wouldnt react to movement and wouldnt walk, and had trouble standing. I gave her a half inch cup of water, and just stared straight forward while drinking it.. And threw it right up. This was within a couple of hours of being home. I took her back and they ran test on her. To put it short, her whole body was ireeversably failing. She had large amounts of fluid in her abdomen. Her liver was almost completely done. Her kidneys were gone. Her breathing was heavy. Her eyes were glossed over, and was completely incoherent. She was dying and there was nothing that could be done about it. I said my goodbyes to her, hugged her and left with a leash, a collar, and a broken heart. She was 5 years old. The vet said she had to of ingested something poisonus. I searched my house for hours and found nothing. I looked up every plant in my backyard and nothing. I'm devastated. I have no idea what happened to her.

If it were me, i might even considering moving if i thought that there was a possibility that a neighbor might have  poisoned my dog, (my dog never leaves my yard without me, but is left in the yard. and since i watch what they do on a walk, i would have to assume that the only poison that could have harmed them was put into my yard. So, if this were us, we would probably sell the house since having a dog is such a big part of our lives. Oh my, i'm sorry you must be going nuts right now. I'm so sorry.

My father in law takes blood pressure medication. Thats the only reasonable answer I have. But ivr never seen her willingly eat pills like that.
I remember when our off leash parks were poisoned and then rasor blades, how could people be so cruel?  Do you take your dog to an off leash park? Maybe she/he got into poison outside of you home, set for rats on someone else's property?
She was a small dog. She was 20 pounds, she only went in our back yard to play around. I don't really know anything else besides her getting into blood pressure medicine, but like I said I don't see a dog eating pills like that. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone purposely poisoned her, but I could be wrong about that also. She was a blue healer, rat terrior mix. She was an awesome dog.
The rate she went downhill was insane. When I said goodbye to her, I don't even think she knew who I was. Her eyes were glossed over, and it looked like she didn't know where she was. It broke my heart a great deal.

My husband is suggesting you talk to the police and let them know that someone probably poisoned your dog. Maybe there are others in the area that are also being p0isoned by some sick b@!#$%^%$. ?

As for having a new pup in the same place that your dog may have gotten into poison. If it were me, i would only walk my dog, and very carefully watch always whatever goes into her mouth. There are sick neighbors around that would poison a dog for barking, and because of what happened to you, if it were me, i would not let the dog in the backyard without my being there every minute.

OMG I'm so sorry to hear what you and your best friend have gone through, we're long time dog and cat owners and sometimes it is this quick. Our last dog went pretty much as fast as yours, and it broke out hearts. When we brought her in, they told us they had to put her down, so we brought our girl out for her last visit. Nobody else could get her to eat for 24-30 hours, but she managed to eat the meat off a Tim Horton's sandwich, and we took pictures and videos of her.  It showed a Very Distinctive Royal Blue Aura around her neck in the film and the pictures -  there was no missing it or confusing it. I have never been into chakra's , but the throat chakra is blue - this is what i found out after i saw the pictures. I'm a Pisces, and although it might sound a bit strange, have contact with the next world. I have sat down in the quiet and have heard a dog mouth making noises right beside me. There are mysteries in this world, but one thing is clear to me. Your dog sits and stays with you, stays loyal to you for your entire lifetime, in good health on the next plane of existence. I know how much you're going to miss your best friend, but please find yourself a pup and replenish your pack with new blood. Having a pup immediately will help you do what you do, care for these magnificent animals. Your dog lives and waits and watches until it is your time.  I never thought i would be able to get a pup so soon after losing our girl, but after a few weeks,  i realized that there was nothing, NOT  anything could ever take away one moment of our love or our time with our girl.  Remember, love is multiplied, not divided. Please let another dog help you through this time. sending my most sincere condolences.
