any thoughts on a holistic vet with a dog with health issues

Hey I have a dog who is 4 years old and her name is Prissy and she has inflammatory bowel that is immune related and she has Pancreatic insufficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency and she has allergies to different things, currently she is on Prednisone, not sure how long she will have to be on that, I am not to crazy about her being on it because her liver enzymes are already high and she has to have blood test often to check the levels. I been hearing people talk about holistic vet may be able to help her with her allergies and inflammatory bowel disease. It is like she really doesnt even care about eating, I have to make her eat most days, Some days she will eat without me having to make her. Anybody ever took there dog to a holistic vet and any thoughts on holistic veterinarian.

My Holistic Vet is my favorite of the 4 I have......When the going gets tough, I head to him! He has never let me down! I do have to travel 120 miles to see him!

Yes, your girl would benefit tremendously, from a more holistic approach.......Most Holistic Vets will treat the body as a whole...Not just symptoms.....

Everything from Nutrition, Vaccines, medications, tests results, your dog's lifestyle, medications she's on, home life, and much much more, will be discussed.....

You want one that is licensed in nutrition, acupuncture & Chinese Herbs....ANd anything else....The more the better! The good news is they also practice Traditional Medicine, so you get the best of both worlds!  They all have to go through the same education as any Vet...But, then add more education on top of that to achieve the other qualifications.....

TO find a Holistic Vet in your area, go to the AHVMA websight...There will be a search by state.....You will then have box choices for small animal, etc....

I will warn you.....More than likely, he/she will frown on the steroids your dog is on...However, starting with proper nutrition, this Vet will get your dog in a state of health, that the steroids can be weaned off for good!

If you decide to find one, be sure & take copies of all your dog's test results, including blood panels.....This will save you the money of having to do it again.....You can get copies of your records from your Vet if you do not already have them....

Please, keep us updated on your girl's progress.....I believe you will be pleasantly surprised!!!!!!   Karla

I too like to avoid wonder drugs.. meds, for myself and my dog.  Still some of it can help.

What are you feeding your dog?  Food allergies can aggregate digestion and skin/coat among other things.  I'd opt for a limited diet and worry only about getting the dog to drink water for a day or two.  Dogs don't starve themselves unless they are very sick.

We use a limited ingredients grain free kibble for our Westie, Mr. Allergy could be his name.
