beagle hair/weight problem

My 5 year old beagle has a history of skin allergies and was put on a special diet which seemingly cured her tail biting for about 1-2 years.  Recently, while on the same diet, she has started chewing her tail again.  She also seems to have gained weight, despite restricted and scheduled feeding, and is occasionally having moments of odd behavior....frantically eating the carpet and grass and acting very hyper when doing so.  Please help!

Hi,

I would use the search box on this forum in upper right side and type in "allergies", many past posts on allergy's...my beagle has severe allergies also, and there is much useful info in those past posts for them. or you could just click on my name and look thru my past posts on allergies.
Also, with the eating/ gaining weight.....beagles are prone to thyroid problems, easily taken care of w/ meds but must have blood test for it. I would have vet do so.
But definitely research this forums past posts, you'll find alot of other ways of helping w/ the allergies, fish oil etc.. before it gets any worse as beagles are prone to this to and they can get severe w/ bacterial/fungal infections as mine did.

Take care, Teresa ; )
