Hi, my last 3 dogs have all had cartrophen (sp) injections. They work extremely well. My terrier cross (benji) had 1 course of the needles (only 4 needles) and never needed them again. Then my shepherd cross rotti got arthritis in her front legs....the vet gave me the needles, which I administered (under the skin between the neck and the shoulder blades) and Heidi was pain free.
My current little dog chi cross foxy (Tina), ruptured her ACL and is not fit for surgery so we gave her a course of 4 injections and she is walking without so much as a limp. Yes, she does sometimes carry her leg when she runs, but I'm very impressed with the results because we didn't know whether the injections would work on an ACL.
I thoroughly and unreservedly recommend this injection. I don't know what it costs elsewhere, but my vet charges $15.00 an injection and no consultation fee (same price if I give the needle myself). Very cheap when you think of the amount of relief it gives your companion.
My next door neighbour had their dog put down because he developed a little arthritis in his hips (he was only 6). I couldn't believe they wouldn't even try this cheap and effective treatment.

I want to buy cartrophen off the Net and inject my dog himself: local vet's fees are prohibitive.
Does anyone have any experience of these injections: are they straight under the skin OR do they need to go into a vein (in which case, not a chance!).
If I can do them, anyone know where I can obtain sterile syringes?
Thanks
yes , Im getting the injections for my beagle as a preventive she has just had cruciate ligament surgery (4wks) so want to make sure she gets all the help she can to recover! Im also trying cosequin a mixture of condroiton ,glucosamine etc.
so far she has had two shots 4 more to go!
I was just curious to know if it made a difference or not!
apparently its suppose to also help reduce joint pain and inflammation....

If you're referring to the course of four injections to rebuild joint cartilage, I don't have any personal experience with it, but I have read some good things about it. Are you using it on your own dog? Right now my dog is only six years old, but time goes by so quickly that she will be a senior doggy before I know it, and I like to keep up with all the new techniques in the event that she needs some help as she ages. :)
