cataracts

My dog, a chihuahua/terrior mix, doesn't seem to see as well as he should.  He is about 9 years old.  When I set food in front of him he has to sniff around to find it.  It seems to be able to see anything at a distance though. His eyes also seem a little bulgy and is pupils seem larger than I remember.  Could my dog have cataracts?  Does anyone know if this can be corrected?  I certainly don't want my dog to go blind and if there is something I can do to prevent it I will.

I didn't know the cost of this so did a little quick research for you, and it looks like the cost will be approximately $1,500 for both eyes. Of course this cost will probably vary.

Yes, they do look a bit cloudy.  I am going make him an apt. with the vet.  I hope it's something he can deal with and not have to send me somewhere else.  Do you have any idea a surgery like this will cost?  I need to plan ahead for this.  Thanks.

If your dog has cataracts you will almost certainly be able to see a milky/cloudy blue-whiteness over the eye. The degree to which the cloudiness is there, shows how 'mature' the catraracts are.
They can be removed by surgery. If you can see anything like this, you could speak to your vet about it.
