I tried the store bought, brand name spray to spray on urine spots or on or around where you don't want your dog to use. None of them worked very well. Since it is the acid needed in them to breakdown and nuetralize the urine, I tried a spray bottle with one half water and one half vinegar[white]. It worked great! my dog didn't pee there plus it did neutralize the smell. It does smell strong at first but in a few hrs.,it's gone [to our smell]. BUT THE DOG CAN STILL SMELL IT WITH THEIR SENSITIVE NOSES. Now I do have to spray again in 2-3 days, but it's worth the time. Hopefully this breaks their habit so you would'nt have to continue spraying. just be sure to 'check spot' any spot you want to spray as to make sure the vinegar doesn't affect it. hope this helps. terriemae
Thanks for the input. I'm glad to know that others have had the same sort of problem. But what I need help with now is how to remedy the situation...it's been a couple of months since the kennel stay and he still does the urinating now and then at the same time of day. We are keeping a close eye on him and I have closed off the room he seems to prefer for his habit. Have you any answers for me?
kennels can cause a pet anxiety, esp. if left too long or at an uncaring kennel. i would get alot of referrals from friends and check with the better business bureau for any complaints. i do know that alot of kennels, not the reputable ones, won't take their pets out on a regular basis. that causes the pet to get used to urinating in their crate, therefore creating bad habits or changing their schedule, which isn't their fault. i left my dog once when i first got him, not knowing. poor thing acted just like yours when i picked him up, and it took us several days to get him out of his anxious state of insecurity. now i have a friend check in on him periodically and feed and play with him. thi works great for him.good luck! always nice to meet another animal lover!
Kennels mess dogs up ! I don't care what the kennel says - it stresses the dog out ! I kenneled my 4 dogs ONCE ... if I can't find someone to watch my dogs in my house ... I don't leave.
