skin problems

my akita has been scratching her neck and chest a lot lately.  she now has these small open sores that scab over and then tufts of hair fall out.  she has been itching constantly.  i'm worried it may be pemphigus foliaceous, which is an autoimmune disease common to this bread.  i have a vet appt. on wed. but i was also wondering if there was anything i could give her to help stop the itching?

Jes...You need to get your puppy to his Vet ASAP......From what you describe,  it could be any number of things.....Some can be very serious without treatment......Young pups rarely have Diabetes.....He needs to be checked out & a proper diagnoses made.....Please, don't wait any longer......Good luck & I hope he gets better......Karla

Check out if it could be a type of Mange. This can be picked up easily especially if she exercises in fields/countryside. Wild foxes, etc can spread it. Does her skin smell odd? The vet can do a skin-scraping, and if it is, usually a shot will cure it. I had a dog years ago that got this, he had one shot at the vet's and was ok. It took a while for the hair to grow back though

My Akita has been scratching like crazy also. My husband thought it was because she had a bath n maybe there was still soap so he rinsed her again. She didn't stop though. I never heard of this skin disorder. Some people say it could also be the food allergie? Please let me know what your vet says.
