Great news Carol...I'm excited for you and your Samantha.....I will research it, too....Right now, I don't have a Heart Patient (Well, except my husband) :( . However, I'm always open to various treatment plans, so I will have a look...Good luck to you both and check in to let us know how the Princess is doing.......Karla

Again Thank you for all your input, my little Doxie (Samantha) is doing soooo much better. I took her off all medications and she is back to her old little self, Had a Normal bowl movement(after two weeks) yesterday and we were so pleased. I researched Bryonia alba and started to give her that (really sounds like a wonderful natural) way to control the lungs, well...she has not coughed, and is happy as a little clam. Read up on this, good for people and animals. I may be in denile, however , she is doing fine, her lungs are clear so I am verry happy. Thank you to Dr Carol Osborne and her wonderful articles, I have enjoyed them mucho....good luck to all and God Bless our little 4 paws...

Thank you all for your help, I will try the pumpkin. I have been giving her turkey meatball with rice, egg and bread crumbs in it. Also split pea soup with carrots, she is eating well, If I can get the diaherra under control, I will be very excited. Will try your suggestions and Thanks again...Carol

I've also not know Ferusemide to cause diarrhea... It is as you know, a diuretic, so removes excess fluid from the system. So it's possible the diarrhea is caused by something else entirely. Just out of interest, how is her kidney function?

Maybe fasting her at her age might be a bit harsh for her. But maybe you could try giving her plain boiled rice and plain boiled chicken breast or white fish for a few days. And get some natural "live" yogurt (available from health food stores) which contains a probiotic. You could give her a dessertspoon or so a day either with her food or just to lick as a treat.
Alternatively, there is a product called "Diarsanyl" which works well for diarrhea. It is Kaolin, and a pro-biotic added. Usually it's available under veterinary prescripton. You could ask your vet about that.

Carol...In my experience w/ Lasix (3 yrs.), diarrhea was not a side effect...However, if you and your Vet believe it is, here's what to do:

Get a can of  pumpkin...NOT pie filling (It has spices in it), but pure canned pumpkin that's used for cooking.....Give your dog 1 heaping tsp. twice a day on his meals.....This should help the diarrhea...It can also be used for constipation,,,Works both ways because of the fiber....You will notice improvement in a couple of days....Good luck....Karla

Thank you for the info..we are having a real hard time with the diaherra that comes along with the drug. We have taken her off the drug until we can get that under control. Then we will put her back on at a much lower dose. Thanks again,, really helps to know that we can cut back.....Carol

Hi Sam & welcome.....I think it's a lifetime medication....However, it can be pulsed.....
Meaning, once you get the excess fluid off the lungs originally, then the dose can be cut back or upped as needed...Hope that helps......Karla
