gabapentin dosage for dogs

my 120 lb poodle has artheritis and my vet game me a prescription of gabapentin 300 mgs. He wants me to give him 2 pills every 12 hrs. Is this too high a dose  ***@****

So using your formula of 1.4 mgs per lb would mean i should give him 168 mgs once per day. My vet has me giving him 2-300 mg pills twice a day for a total of 1200 mgs. I called and left a message regarding my concern and that he should double check and get back to me ty for your info.

Good Morning!
I have a rescue terrier (jack russell & rat terrier), approximately 9 years of age.  He is deaf and after 3 days at home found he has moderate to severe seizures.

I give him between 150mg - twice a day...on his normal days.  Abit more if his regular routine is going to be interrupted...i.e. out-of-town, large group of friends that he is unfamiliar with...then I provide 250mg, twice daily.

Hope this helps a bit.  It is a wonder drug for "LD."

You can't leave your email address on here; but, as for your question:

It is 1.4 mg per pound once a day for pain.  If you are questioning it being too much I would call back your vet (or if you feel funny- call a different vet) and ask.  While you have them on the phone ask them about what to watch for as far as side effects go.
I gave my Koenig the liquid form twice daily and it worked great for him during his last year as far as pain.   Best of wishes.
