It is very common for a vet to prescribe this medicine to dogs for anxiety/stress/and behavioral issues (at a lower dose for behavior). The dosing is approximately 3.5mg/lb so this pet definitely needs to see a vet due to that she most likely was double dosed and needs to at least drink water . If she can’t move it’s definitely a bad sign. Any form of lethargy from any pet unless the owner is aware the pet is geriatric and was probably diagnosed with some sort of health issue I.e. arthritis, cancer, spinal cord injury/injuries.
Keep an eye on your pets! Every little detail to the veterinarian can be extremely important in the diagnosis of any illness/disease/injury/infection, etc your pet may be ailed with.

Actually 50 mg for a shitzu is fine, mine was just given this by his vet after going through some trauma. Every 8 hours 50 mg for 3 days he's totally fine, nothing bad. My daughter who is 110 lbs was given 50 mg 1-3 pills so yes it's hard for an adult to overdose as well. Please unless you are a vet or a doctor instead of freaking people out only give advice if you know. From experience and I'm in the medical field take my advice or leave it.

Wow, I'm taking trazadone 50 mg, but I weight over 230 pounds.  I know 100 mg may be too much for me, just this tells me any animal under 20 pounds would OD on 50 mg.   Hope this wasn't a guess at home remedy.  If it was, Please Stop doing that.

My adopted 13 month old Japanese Chin from the Hannah the Pet Society was given Trazadone 1/2 tab 50mg when he was 4 months old for comfort/stress barking and an unknown dosage amount listed at 9 months old for kennel stress and vocalization. Was this the wrong approach for a puppy who was placed at Hannah at 6 weeks of age? And could he have developed any long term effects that could cause internal problems, brain function, or anything else that can't be 100% detected easily by vets but detected by me? I'm noticing fear, going in the house 1-2 times a week, severe separation anxiety, and he hides like he's deadly afraid from mild scolding by grabbing his neck like his mom would do to teach proper things and having a firm voice. Should I be concerned or worried since he was so young at the time or is there any way I can get advice to help me with him, I just got him 2 months ago 1-1/2 weeks before Christmas and I'm finding things out from observation and his vet records. He won't bark much on command or in general much for fear of getting in trouble with Trazadone for it, which I'm not giving him at all because I know that some barking is good and normal for dogs.
Thanks.

I've never heard of trazodone's being prescribed for dogs.  And yes, 50mg for a shih-tzu is a toxic dose.  It is pure luck that the dog did not die within the first 24 hours.  A trazodone overdose can cause death by heart arrhythmia.  By all means, take the dog to the vet.  And please don't ever, ever again give your dog any medication that was not prescribed or approved by a veterinarian.  Hopefully, your shih-tzu is going to live, but she very easily could have died.

Welcome...Since the usual dose for Humans is 50-150mg., I suspect  that she was overdosed...However, it should have worn off by now.....You need to seek medical attention for her immediately......Hopefully, this was prescribed by her Vet , but the dose is too high.....

Your Vet knows the best treatment for poisoning.......I hope you haven't waited too long, though.....3-4 days without food or water is very dangerous for a dog!!! That alone can cause many problems...Get her to her Vet for fluid hydration, now...

Come back & let us know about her....good luck, Karla
