As soon as I started to read your post, I suspected the same thing that Ghilly does...I sounds to me, like your puppy is having some wonderful doggy dreams..! When dogs are dreaming, their legs and tails can move, their body will often twitch, their eyes will move, many times their eyes are open, their lips can twitch or curl up, they can snarl,growl,bark,whimper...and they are just dreaming. Many times when they are dreaming..if you try to talk to them softly, they will not respond to your voice. So Most likely...I would say that your dog is just dreaming.
However....If it is a seizure.....
Some dogs will have their neck stretched out and head drawn backward during a seizure, and may gnash their teeth violently.Seizing dogs will usually have violent convulsions of the legs also,(frantically thrashing their legs.) If your dog also drools excessively, or foams at the mouth....or urinates or defecates while all the other things are happening, .....Then it is a seizure.
I do commend you for keeping such a good eye on your dog....I would recommend that you do more research on the symptoms of dog seizures and if you are still concerned...consult your vet.
As far as not chasing the ball immediately after you throw it goes, I would not think anything of it....that may just be your dogs personality...or she may just be waiting for you to tell her to go get it...!
Let us know what you decide to do....Thanks
Connie
Are you sure she's not dreaming? Dogs DO dream, and some of them actually RUN in their sleep! They can also be sound asleep with their eyes open. It's pretty unlikely that she's only having seizures when she's asleep, if she was prone to a seizure disorder she certainly would have had at least ONE while she was awake. The odds against her never having a seizure while awake but always having them while sleeping are staggering.
As far as her being slow when she plays ball, well, not all dogs are athletic. They'r;e just like people. They all have different abilities. She may be clumsy or gawky, she is, after all, only 10 months old. That's a pretty gawky stage for most large dogs. They're too big to look like puppies but too much a puppy to behave like dogs.
If I were you, to put my mind at ease I would make an appointment with the vet and have him go over her to make sure she's OK. But I seriously don't think that these are actually seizures you are seeing, I think it's probably Mindy dreaming. If you want to see videos of dogs dreaming, go to Google and put in "videos of dogs dreaming" and see what you come up with. I will bet you that at least a few of them will resemble what your Mindy goes through. Please post back and let us know how she is.
