my dog is in labor

I have a jack Russell mix,(2yrs old) the dad is a yorkie.  she has been panting heavily for about 12 hours on and off, she is in a dark quiet place, and I am not sure how long before she gives birth to a puppy??  She has been very restless, she has had some discharge, and there is milk present, not dripping, but there. this is our first time breeding any of our dogs. I am somewhat prepared, but nervous just the same.

I hope her whelping is going well...?
There is good information on this site:

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/whelping.htm

But if in ANY way unsure of what you are doing or if you feel anything isn't going right, and you are worried about her, get her to the vet immediately, or call the vet out to you.
It's always wise to inform the vet ahead of time that you may need to call them during the whelping, more or less when you expect her to give birth, and have the number on speed dial.

I hope all goes well. I shall be thinking of you all.

I really wish people would be responsible about breeding and educate themselves beforehand.
If this is her first litter. It could take longer.  Have you been checking temps at all?  What does the discharge look like?  Is she having contractions yet or just panting?  The milk production is normal.
If she seems to be in distress and no contractions start soon, you should call the Vet as labor may not be progressing for a variety of reasons.
