Ask about laser surgery to remove the growth. I don't know if it will be possible, but laser surgery is often used instead of regular (scalpel) surgery when there is risk of excessive bleeding, or when the surgery is in an awkward position, such as this, when bleeding could be a problem.

Yes, he did the blood work before the anesthetic was given. He did give Nicky antibiotics just case of infection. He also told me their was was growth in his throat he was'nt sure what it was. He said may be a tumor or a growth of some kind. However. he said he would be uncomfortable doing that kind of surgery because possible bleeding problems. He later called and give me the name Dr.Terry Dew in Russellville, AR. I look at the for Dr.Dew his clinic is called the Azzore.  He listed as the only board certified surgeon in AR.  THANKS YOU FOR COMMENTS. I AM SORRY DID'NT EVEN HELLO/

Hello & welcome Jim..... Wait! I don't understand your question......You took your dog to your  Regular Vet for a teeth cleaning, right? Then after the dental, Dr. told you there was a growth in his mouth? And that's it?????
Something is not right here.....Did your Dr. do bloodwork on your dog, before putting him under anesthetic for the teeth cleaning?

Did he offer antibiotics just in case of infection? How bout antibiotics for just the Dental?
Anything?

NO, you don't need a Speciality Surgeon, Yet....
You need a NEW Vet that will help you get to the bottom of what your dog's dealing with.... Antibiotics for starters.....Can you get a second opinion somewhere, else? Another Vet?

Please let us know.....Karla

It sounds like a long term abscess that is badly infected and needs to be cleaned up.
I think it could have been caused by an infected tooth just like we get. That gunk I would think is Pus so do not panic.
This Vet would clean it up and give your dog a shot of antibiotics with tablets to follow.
Your poor little dog would have been in pain with it.
If you have your own Vet! go to him as any competent Vet should be able to do this.
Don't panic just book your dog in as soon as you can ok.

Please let us know how you go.
