German Shepherds are one of the breed that have a problem with the third eyelid. It is called pannus. Hopefully your vet knows what this and what to look for. steroid eye drops are the treatment & the vet can call a script to wallmart or one of the grocery chains that offer 4 dollar scripts, much cheaper and it is the same thing. good luck
i have a bichon frise. if you're not familiar, they look like a mix between a poodle and a maltese. he, Cody, has gotten reddish, pinkish eyes since birth, 10 yrs ago. my vet said it was allergies. he prescribed allergy pills. they cleared up. then after yrs had to stop due to finances. red eyes came back, dr. said use otc Benadryl. it helped alot. but one time it came back and wouldn't leave. took him to vet. he had an infection. vet gave him Atropine ointment to use once a day for 1 wk., and BNP ointment to use 3 times a day for 1 wk. his eyes cleared right up! Benadryl won't hurt him to use a childs dosage, maybe if it's ok with your vet, you could see if that clears it up. if not, take him to vet asap.an infection won't go away without meds [from vet]. but do call your vet as soon as possible. good luck. he'll thank you for it. hope this helps.

Thanks I did and was given some ointment. This however has not made any difference.
Why not have your vet take a look at the problem?
