I am not qualified to answer that question either, but I did see a 20/20 investigation once that vet drugs and human drugs are most times exactly the same except in price. Human drugs cost many more times the cost of vet drugs, and of course may be in different strengths. I am in no way encouraging you to do something that might be harmful to your animal, just throwing that out there. I have given my yorkie (who lived to be 17) several human drugs, among them, valium, (small amount of course), robitussin, for her cough, human anti-biotics (mine, again small amount) with obviously no adverse effects...... maalox when her tummy was upset a couple times during her life....oh and benadryl for itching due to allergies, children's benedryl, liquid in the snap open one-use container....I gave it all to her, she was 10-12 lbs. she lived long and very healthy, only visits to vets were yearly. I also used human remedies for her skin rash, etc. Some of this (benedryl) was recommended by a breeder, she said it works really well in SOME dogs, and it did in the case of my yorkie.
p.s.....the list of drugs not to give to your dog that I mentioned above was on THIS site.
I just read a whole list of drugs NOT to give your dog. My 4-yr old 9 lb Shih Tzu has separation anxiety and my vet prescribed xanax for her. He also said that sometimes, along with the xanax, paxil (human form of both drugs) is given. I had read several other places on the net that these drugs were prescribed for dogs with separation anxiety by their vets. Just goes to show you that you cannot believe everything you read on the web. She is doing fine by the way.
The only way I can think of for you to possibly save some money is to take the ear drops with you to the vet appointment, so the doctor can see what you already have and tell you if it will work.
It's not one of the drugs that's commonly prescribed to dogs. Because of the possibility that there is a medical reason why dogs don't tolerate it, yeah, you have to ask your vet. Also, you need the vet to tell you how long to administer treatment, to make sure the infection doesn't come right back. Also, you really need to know what kind of infection it is, so you can be sure the drug is going to be effective. I think your dog needs to go to the vet. Sorry.
I don't know, either.....Sorry.....
I am not qualified to answer this. If I were you, I would ask your Vet.
