Test Results for 14 Boxer Mix with Possible Cushing's

As some of you may know from my previous post, my 14 year old boxer mix had a Dexamethasone (sorry about spelling) supression test.  I got a call with the results today and the vet said that they were not as good as he had hoped but they weren't bad.  He said her cortisol decreased during the test but not as much as he had hoped.  He said we will need to test her cortisol level again and possible repeat the Dexamethsone supression test in 6 months.  I was wondering if anyone had any advice on this.  I know that there are other reasons for an elevated cortisol level and I don't want to miss anything. My dog seems very healthy and happy.  She eats normal, has normal potty habits and plays alot.  We found the elevated cortisol level while preparing to remove a skin tag.  Any advice will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Turtle

Like I posted earlier this test has been known to show false positives so instead of repeating this same test ask to do an acth stim next time. Actually don't ask demand it! lol.  Like I said if no other symptoms are showing it could just be age related and don't worry about it. Even if you got a conclusive positive showing in the test no good vet would  start medications unless there are other symptoms causing physical discomforts and issues. Good Luck!

I just had my 14 yr old diabetic dogs teeth cleaned and they found the same thing.  My vet said not to worry about it unless he starts to exhibit other symptoms such as increased water consumption, frequent need to void or accidents in the house and, because he is diabetic, a steady increase in the amount of insulin he requires.
