Previcox For Dogs Review
By James on November 17th, 2010
Previcox is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever that also reduces fever in dogs. This prescription medication is given to dogs that have just received surgery, have arthritis, or for other complications as prescribed by your vet. You shouldn’t give Previcox to your dog if it is allergic to aspirin or is taking other NSAID pain relievers.
Your vet can determine if your dog is allergic to aspirin with a simple test if you are unsure. As with any prescription medications you should make sure to keep them out of reach of children and animals as an accidental overdose is possible.
Previcox For Dogs Review
Previcox is given to your dog in a chewable tablet which makes it easier to get your dog to take its medicine. Dogs love the flavor and usually have no problems taking the tablets at all. You should keep a close eye on your dog when first starting the Previcox treatment as side effects have been reported in some breeds. Some side effects include vomiting, skin rash, lethargy, and bloody stool. You should watch for any kind of negative change in your pet’s health and consult your vet. Most breeds handle Previcox very well and you shouldn’t have any issues but you can talk to your vet about which breeds will handle it better to make sure it’s right for your dog.
As for the dosage, your vet will advise you as to how much you should give your pet. Typically, Previcox is given in a single dose daily and is calculated at 2.27mg per pound. It can be given to your dog with food or without it. However, keep plenty of water on hand for your dog. If you happen to miss a dose, give it to your dog as soon as you remember it. However, if you don’t remember until it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, just forget about the missed on and administer the next regularly scheduled dose. Never give a double dose of Previcox.
Should you accidently give your dog too much of the Previcox, you must get emergency veterinary help immediately. The symptoms of an overdose of Previcox are nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, stomach pain, blurred vision, headache, slow breathing, little to no urine output and coma.
