unexpected death :(

My boyfriend and I rescued an 8 month old Shepherd/Husky mix. She was a beautiful, healthy dog and was up to date with all her shots and vaccinations. She was a friendly, loyal pup and there was nothing really wrong with her besides on occasion she would have diarrhea, which we took her to the vet for and she got medicine. She just had a sensitive stomach if she ate any other food but her own. So today we got up and she was fine, acting normal as ever. Then we were laying down in bed watching t.v and Koda wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, until she suddenly threw her head back into my arms, stiffly, and she started moaning/yelping for about 15-20 sec. then she suddenly stopped breathing. No foam at the mouth, no drooling, no shaking, nothing. My boyfriend and I were freaking out and didn't know what to do. So we tried CPR as best we could then threw her in the car and flew to out vet. But, it was sunday and unfortunately all the nearby vet clinic's were closed! So we had to drive about 25min. away to the nearest animal emergency hospital. But when we got there they couldn't revive her and it was too late. It was probably the worst day in my life. It was so unexpected and sudden we were shocked and devastated because she showed no signs and nothing was wrong. Dr.'s suspected a heart attack, or some kind of heart problem but she was only 8 months old! How and Why could this have happened?? I know before we rescued her she was getting neutered and the Dr.'s gave her too much anesthesia and she actually died and they had to revive her. The Dr.s said there wasn't anything seriously wrong with her heart after and never said to be careful or keep an eye out, and we wondered if that could have been a major problem also? We are just so shocked and confused as to why this has happened and just want to know what could have been the problem.

I'm so sorry about your Koda.  :(

From your description, it sounds like it was either cardiac-related or perhaps a brain aneurism.  The fact that she was only 8 months old makes it more difficult to accept, but it's entirely possible that she had a congenital defect that everyone had been unaware of.  There are many conditions that escape detection during routine examinations, conditions that can only be discovered and diagnosed using advanced medical technology that would not have been called for since the dog did not previously exhibit any unusual symptoms.

Joohee is right, you rescued her and she loved you for that.  Think of the good life she had with you, however short, and know that whatever time she had on this earth, you made better for her.

Hey,
Two days ago my maltese died suddenly as well and the doctor said that she doesn't know why since she just died as soon as they took her to the back for a cold shower.

I am so sorry for your loss and trust me, I know what you're going through and I will pray for you and your dog.

I am only 18 but maybe your dog was internally ill.
The fact that you rescued her probably meant the world to her so please
remember that<3
