Thanks for the additional info LivingInHope. I appreciate it. I'll ask my doctor about the blood testing. The Tramadol actually helps my POTS. Without it I have a lot more tachy. It's a night and day difference. When I take Tramadol, my heart-rate goes down significantly. I also have pain issues from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and it helps my depression, so it's killing a lot of birds with one stone, so to speak. :P But yeah, a blood test may be a good idea, as you've suggested. The urine test I had was for testing for a pheochromocytoma. It's an annoying test because the urine has to stay in the fridge and when taking it to the testing place to drop it off, you have to pack it with ice to keep it cool. I'm OCD so this bothered me doing this, but I did it anyway. lol

You're welcome!

A plasma free metanephrines test (fasting), is a sensitive blood test I did get to rule out a rare catecholamine-emitting tumor, usually found on an adrenal gland, called a pheochromocytoma.  This kind of tumor can have 'silent' periods where catecholamines can be at normal levels.  This fasting blood test checks for the inactive metabolites of the catecholamines and therefore, is almost completely accurate for ruling out that sort of tumor.  Symptoms with the tumor are very high spikes in blood pressure, rapid pulse, headache, and sweating, if I recall correctly.

I once had a doctor who suggested in regards to SSRis that with my orthostatic tachycardia, it would be no wonder if that sort of drug would make me bounce off the walls.  Recently, I learned there are anti-depressants that tend to lower your blood pressure.

I'm surprised they are using that sort of pain reliever on you for your P.O.T.S. unless you also have some sort of pain issue.

Thanks for the info LivingInHope! I had a urine test over a 24 hour period for mine. I wonder what a blood test would show? I want one done now. I want to have one done with Tramadol and one without just to compare. I feel HyperPOTSy with extreme anxiety. Matter of fact, I'm not working and receiving SSD due to severe anxiety/panic attacks, depression, and POTS. :/ I'm treatment-resistant. I've tried every single SSRI, all of the SNRIs, 1 Tri-Cyclic, Remeron, Trazodone, Viibryd, and combining them with anti-psychotics and mood-stabilizers with no luck. Tramadol is the only thing that touches my depression and nothing, so far, for anxiety. :(

Being on a seratonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, I would guess that would keep more norepinephrine in your system.

A test for P.O.T.S. diagnosis, other  than a positive tilt table test which I've had done, is one no one has ever done on me... it's a blood test for norepinephrine while standing that comes out over 600 ng/mL, if memory serves me correctly.

I'm not exactly housebound. Although I have symptoms of HyperPOTS, like increased anxiety, insomnia, hypertension, etc my Norephinephrine tests were normal as well as Epinephrine. I question how accurate my test was because I'm on an SNRI, Tramadol (opioid with SNRI properties) and it help my POTS tremendously, however I wonder if that medication affected the test? I dunno. But, if I don't take it, then I'm housebound.

Best of luck!

Hi!

I believe the form of P.O.T.S. I have is hyperadrenergic, but I am not housebound by it.  However, it has caused some alterations in lifestyle.

Not sure if anyone currently active in our community is homebound from hyperadrenergic POTS, but I've known people who were. Do you have a specific question or are you generally looking for someone to commiserate? I have generalized dysautonomia as well as some other rare conditions and am on home healthcare.
