Vasovagal syncope, vertigo, muslce pain/spasms

Over the past 5 months I've had strange symptoms.  It all began in February of this year.  While standing on the train I got a bad headache and stomach ache.  I got off the train and began seeing double, it was really bad and then I fainted for a minute.  I was ok for 3 days until I got the same sensations but didn't faint.  A week or so later I began experiencing vertigo.  I went to the ER several times and nothing was diagnosed.  As I waited for my appointment with a neurologist, other symptoms appeared.  My body was itchy and burning, I had muscle spasms and pain, the pain and spasms came along with burning sensations.  My neck began hurting so much I felt as if my head was too heavy for it.  I had tingling and numbing sensations all over, even on my lips and tongue.  I also experienced migranes.  I remember having such a bad migrane one saturday morning and ever since I now see visual floaters.  The vertigo was really bad, I would walk and once I suddenly stopped the tip of my feet would come off the ground.  The neurologist ordered various bloodwork and MRIs (cervical spine, orbital, head).  Everything came back normal except my cervical neck doesn't have a curvature (I had physical therapy for this) and my vitamin D level is low (I take supplements daily).  I no longer experience the itchiness and electric shock type sensations since I began taking vitamin B12 and magnesium.  As for the muscle pain/spasms and vibrations I was told it's fibromyalgia.  I take gabapentin which helps a bit but I don't understand why I still experience vertigo and my head is foggy especially when it's around the time of the month in which I get my period.  Sorry this is so long but it's been months I've been feeling like this.  All this has made me jumpy and I had one entire month in which I had such difficulty falling asleep and frequent urintion.  I also get frequent UTIs.  I'm a female in my early 20s.  Any comment(s) will be appreciated.

How are things now? We had also found mold in our home and had these symptoms. 2 of us had Lyme, too. And some of us now have food allergies that are the same symptoms.

I went through two years of these symtpoms before I discovered it was being caused by the house I was living in.  We had moved into a home with mold.  Doctors tell me that mold can not cause these symptoms but I think it can but just hasn't been proven with science yet.  I moved out of that house about 8 months ago.  My condition has improved greatly although I'm not sure I will ever be 100% normal again.  I continue to have reoccuring symptoms caused by two things.  One, is high humidity, which means that mold spores in our environment are more active.  And, two, is vibrations.  By vibrations I mean like listening to certain bands play (vibrations coming off their sound systems) or even one movie, which had loud techno music that vibrated so much I could feel the vibrations in the floor under my feet in the movie theater.  I'm not sure if this helps, but consider your living or working environment.  I've discovered many people with daily mold exposure and very similar symptoms.  Unfortunately, the only cure is to remove yourself from the environment or correct the mold problem, which is almost impossible.

I have been dealing with all those syptoms and then some for a year now.

Numbing feeling mostly on my left side but not limited to it, sharp pinching pain especially in my fingers and toes, feeling like i am being choked, stuffy feeling behind the ears similar to an ear infection but that has been ruled out, a feeling like i have a fever but my temperature is normal, vertigo, frequent syncope episodes, chest pain, an uncontrollable irregular heartrate, extream fatigue, low blood pressure when standing, severe migrains, and drastic hot to cold changes, swelling in my hands and feet, my left eye is always crying, numbness in my left side of my face, stomach problems, tired all day and wide awake all night, stiff neck, and an itchy mouth.

The only trauma i ever had was a very bad case of Lyme disease but was treated and healthy and 6 months later all that started happening.  It seams like it is getting worst and the meds don't seem to work for me.  I think they even make my stuffy head feeling worst.  Doctors tell me that its just migrains but I have never hered of migrains doing all that.  Other doctors tell me that its anxiety so they put me on anxiety meds and those dont help at all.  I went to college for psychology and fashion school and had more anxiety then than i do now.  I can't even work now.  I don't have anxiety, I have nothing to be anxious about.  I am baffled though...I still don't have a word for what I have.

Hi, Cinains,

As your post was a while ago now, did you ever find the cause of the problem?

The reason I ask is I have nearly the  same symptoms currently. It started with visual disturbances (temporarily lost vision in one eye). Now suffering from a weak/painful neck, vasovagel  and bladder symptoms (and, like you, have these floating particles in front of my eyes). I also experience tingling/pain in my hand and foot.

Sleeping has been difficult, including not sleeping deeply enough to feel rested.

The onset of the initial symptoms coincided with significantly increased use of the computer at work. I also have a history of 2 sports-type injuries to my neck.

Recent X-ray shows I too have loss of curvature in the cervical spine,  also evidence of degeneration and a bone spur in the upper part of my neck.

I would be interested if you found an effective treatment for the symptoms?

Hope you are well now,

Thanks.

Hey there,
I have not suffered any injuries.  I think mine is related to the way I st at work.  I work in front of a computer all day long and spend much time on the phone holding it with my right shoulder.  Last year I suffered from back pain, the office chair is too big for the desk.  This year it's the neck since I'm constantly on the phone.  I'm also very stressed out and it just builds tension on the muscle.  My physical therapist could not believe how tense my shoulder muscles are.  I think neck injuries can cause vertigo.  If my neck hurts or if I put pressure on it, I get migraines and vertigo.  The sleep issue became a habit, I couldn't sleep because I was distracted by noise.  A week later there was no noise but I got addicted to benadryl and other things to make me sleepy.  Then I began to panic and so forth.  Try to get a MRI of your cervical spine and if necessary get therapy.  I also apply heat on my neck when it hurts and it helps.  Good luck and keep in touch.

I have the same problem and think I have solved it. Basically I was keeping the air too hot in the summer and this was causing high humidity in the house.. the hight humidity cause my sinuses to inflame and infect.. so I hired a company to take humidity away from house (250 dollars) . I then bought a hair purifier (makes ozone disinfects viruses and bacteria) (120 dollars) . Now I keep home at constant 76 F in the summer and will buy a small air dehumidifier for the summers, just in case. I also read that latest research links high humidity to sinus infections, ear are connected so then we get vertigo!!!!! I understand how you feel have had vertigo a few  times and it was the scariest thing ever.. also look on Google research connecting high humidity to sinus and vertigo problems and good luck! I have been suffering these symptoms for years. It all started after a large  car accident, i suffered serious whiplash. Ive started getting bad dizziness almost fainting. Ive played off for years thinking i was stuck with it. Doctors have never been able to explain it. So finally ive decided to search the net and found your story. I get a very swollen or inflamed neck and skull which feels tight i guess and i feel like passing out.I also struggle to sleep, because of the previous symptom. Is these also what happens to you? Did you suffer some sort of neck or head trauma? Im a 32yo male, just trying to find as much info as i can to work this out, cheers

Indications that dysautonomia might be part of the picture would be irregularities in your blood pressure or heart rate, especially problems with spikes or drops in them when you stand upright.  In the absence of these indicators, although some of the symptoms you describe are symptoms of dysautonomia, they are also symptoms of many other disorders and are not considered indicative of dysautonomia in and of themselves.  Do you have any information about your blood pressure and heart rate?

I'm very sympathetic to your situation, because you have a long list of non-specific symptoms (symptoms that can point to a great number of different diseases/syndromes), and this can make for a difficult search for a diagnosis.
