BRONCHITIS, LARYNGITIS, COLD...OH MY!

I've been sick for almost 3 months now. Started with a horrible cough, then a head cold.  Due to the coughing, I have lost my voice (at this point I can only whisper).  I started feeling better and my voice started coming back, just to get sick all over again. Voice, once again, GONE.  After about a month, I went to see my PCP which told me I had bronchitis and laryngitis.  She put me on Amoxicilian, Claritin, tessalon pearl (for the cough) and albuterol inhaler.  After finishing all my antibiotic, continuing claritin, tessalon pearl (as needed) and inhaler, I started to feel better.  Once again, the cough is back, runny nose, and no voice.  Will I EVER talk again?  Have I done too much damage to recover from this? And why do I continue to get sick?  PLEASE HELP!

Thank you so much for your information and suggestions.  I am making an appt. once again as I still am not recovering from this illness.  I've read that TB or Mold Exposure may also be something to look into.  I had a leak in my apartment and when I had them address the issue, there was what looked like black mold under the padding in a small area of my living room...(i have taken pictures and contacting a health inspector), also, there has been a positive TB result in the lower part of my state, so to be on the safe side, I will be asking my PCP to check this as well.  I have never been sick for this long and frankly, pardon the pun, I'm sick of it.  I just want to feel normal again.  Ughh.  I will be sure to keep you informed of my progress.  TY again for your time and input into this matter!  Much love, peace and health...SickPuppy44

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Your symptoms could be due to a post nasal drip, which can cause a chronic irritation in the throat. This could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
