Well, I'd recommend gargling with warm salt water and if isn't gone in a couple of weeks, see a doctor about it. Mine was around the area where a tonsil used to be, I think (I had a tonsillectomy surgery as a youngster).

Yes you can get herpes simplex when sharing something that way with someone who has the virus.
I don't know if it would cause the apparent infection next to your uvula. Sometimes, a bit of food can get caught back there and cause inflammation. Sometimes, a blocked salivary gland (I had this) at the back of the throat can cause infection and pus comes. It's one lone solitary spot back there, correct? If you have the spot longer than two weeks, see a doctor (preferrably an ear, nose and throat specialist) to get the spot at the back biopsied if needed. That was going to be my next step- to rule out cancer- if the antibiotic they gave me did not clear it up. But the antibiotic cleared up my problem of a white spote with red around it at the back of my throat. If I had a lot of white back there, I would have wanted to find out if I had strep throat.
