Chronic Sinus Pressure / Head Pressure (allergy, Sinus?)

Hello!

I'm a 27 year-old male living in Los Angeles, CA.

For the past 6 months (maybe longer!) I've been experiencing chronic forehead / sinus pressure on my behind my eyes, and behind my nose and on my forehead.  At first I thought I had a classic case of sinusitis (I wish..) and was given several courses of antibiotics.  When that didn't work I visited a neurologist, who gave me an ENT, CatScan, Sinus and Brain Scans all of which came out fine.  I then visited a neurologist who prescribed me some nasal sprays and Allegra D...that didn't work either. I then visited an ENT who gave me some Nasocort, and allergy medicine, and that isn't working either.  Sudafed is no match for this pressure, and no painkillers (tylenol, alieve, etc..) have given me any relief.

I'm currently taking 1 claritin at night, and a puff of flonase and 1 Zyrtech D tablet in the morning: these aren't working.

I have a deviated septum, and thought these problems might've been a result of surfing the polluted beaches of Malibu, but when I took some time off surfing the symptoms still prevailed.

My Symptoms are as follows:

Pressure on forehead, behind eyes, and behind nose
Fatigue
Occasional Nausea

*i feel better when I get cardio exercise, but the symptoms come back after a workout.

I'm beginning to reach my rope's end and really hope I can find sort of relief or remedy.   It's really hard to be positive and motivated when you feel like **** everyday.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks!

Patrick

I've been dealing with this issue for many years. The Dr.s said it was cluster headaches due to the fact that they come for a period of time and then I wont have one for a long while. I don't think that is the case but the Migraine medicine is the only thing that seems to get rid of the pain.

I started getting the signs of a sinus infection in October 2013 and immediately jumped to attacking it with nasal sprays, sudafed and antibiotics. The antibiotics would clear me up for about a week, but my symptoms always returned. I was getting awful pressure behind my cheek bones and between my eyes. But, what no one could explain was my tension headache that went along with it as it was across my forehead. Over the course of 6 months, I was on antibiotics 3 or 4 times and the last time they were accompanied by prednisone. I went to the ENT, had a CAT scan, but the inflammation was not significant enough at the time to follow through with any type of surgical procedure. There were days when I couldn't get out of bed because the pressure was so bad and the only thing that helped was sleep. Now, I'm a college student and that was just not something I could afford to do all day. Finally, I came across an article about Gluten sensitivity, inflammation, and elimination diets. I've now been gluten free and symptom free for 4 months. The whole time I had been trying to treat the symptoms and not the cause. Now, most people when I tell them are pretty skeptical because of the reputation gluten has had in the media and its stint as the new weight loss diet. But, I accidentally ate soy sauce in a dish at a restaurant over the summer (yes, soy sauce has wheat in it...) and 24 hours later, my symptoms returned. I would probably say that it took about 6 weeks for my symptoms to completely disappear, but I never had another of my awful attack days where I was nonfunctional and miserable. If you feel like you've tried everything, this is just another option. If you're as miserable as I was, you're probably willing to try anything.

I to suffer from constant sinus pressure and I am taking allegra D, Astelin nasal spray and singulair. These medications work wonders but if I miss a dose I suffer terribly and it puts me out of work. After many years of   having several ear and sinus issues my doctor decided to do testing  I was finally diagnosed with vertigo and eustastion tube disfunction with severe allergies which can cause severe sinus pressure and other issues This is why I am on three differant medicines.  Before I was diagnosed I had been on several rounds of antibiotics for sinus infections and ear problems and several allergy medicines that didnt work. I had a sinus cat scan come back normal and an ear ct scan which came back normal, I have had several surgeries and had PE tubes put in my ears to help with the eustasion tube, and I had a mastoidectomy to take care of a massive ear infection. So checking into ear issues might solve some of your sinus problems and doing allergy testing and finding the right medication that will work. I am not a doctor but I have many years of experience with these issues I hope reading my comment helps.

I hear and feel everything you are saying. Not just the headaches, pressure and soreness but also that weird feeling of my brain vibrating loose. (best way to describe it) I have been doing all the rituals but ENT says that CT was normal. I told her i can't have this crap the rest of my life. NO WAY.
And of course I haven't heard back from her in 3 days.

I have the same symptom and had surgery about 6 months ago, but, I am still suffering badly. Now my doctor is investigating if I am suffering with some permanent allergy in the air. Haven't got the result yet.

One of the possibilities is that you have a fungal infection, which produces clear thick gel-like nasal discharge, but doesn't always produce enough sinus congestion to show up on a CAT scan, and can produce your symptoms.  If it is, the deviated septum makes you more susceptible to infections.  A former Mayo researcher is looking for an anti-fungal sinus spray, but nothing yet.

I've developed a saline Sinus Flush that dramatically removes any sort of infection from the sinuses.  It's slightly risky, because you have to bend over in a shower, but sounds like you're in fine shape.  All it does is recreate the water-up-your-nose experience, one that you are familiar with, but with safe hypotonic saline solution.  Put your cursor on the blue "friggy" and go to My Journal to find the instructions.  If you don't see much results after 5 days, then you can at least eliminate infection as a cause of your problem.  Good luck.

I am only fifteen, but I have been suffering the same problems for five or six years. No medications every helped me, but last December, I have surgery to clean out my sinuses and fix my deviated septum. I still had a sinus infection, which probably the worst one I every had, but from February to now, I have been pretty much symptom free, except from the occasional congestion from allergies. If you are willing the undergo the surgery, I would highly suggest it. It's an easy procedure, and I was back at school on the third day.

Good Luck!

I have exact same thing, have had brain and sinus ct scan which came back normal. I can't cope with the pain and pressure anymore. Every day I feel awful. Tingling in head/sinus region, pressure behind my nose, pain, pain in my forehead, between my nose, pressure in forehead. This is crazy. Currently have a nose spray which isn't working and finished antibiotics last week (2 week course) which didn't work either.

This may sound dramatic, but it is ruining my life

I to have been suffering from chronic head pressure for the last 5-6 months.  Mine is almost constant...it never seems to alleviate or go away.  I was fearful of a brain tumor (and still somewhat am), but I have not yet been to see a nuerologist.  I went to my GP Monday and he didn't want to do any brain/head scans.  For some reason he doesn't seem to think it is related to that.  He prescribed me regular Allegra 180 MG.  I have been taking it for three days, and today, as I type these words, the head pressure is at a minimum and I am jumping for joy!  It is still too early to tell if this will last or if the Allegra is helping, but hopefully it will.

My pressure has been in the front of my head, in my forehead, down around my eyes, around my temples and around my nose.  As I said, it has been constant for the last 5-6 months, and it is almost debilitating!  The only thing that helps it is to lay down.  As a result I have become depressed and haven't wanted to do hardly anything for a very long time!  I know how you feel!
