Chronic Sore Throat since 5 years

Hi,

I have had a continuous sore throat since about 5 years now. Within the last 5 years there hasn't been a single moment without the sore throat pain and fatigue.

I started with visiting several ENTs and general physicians who took throat swabs and ruled out any infections. After no response to the strong atibiotics, all of them ruled this as acid reflux. I also visited a GI who put me on Zantacs and 2 PPIs for several months but it didn't work. Endoscopy revealed some inflammation in esophagus. the 24-hour ph test and manometry test revealed negative results - no alarming ph levels and good pressure from the LES.

The last GI put me on domperidone, Zantac and PPI. It's been 2 months, it has helped me with the heartburn but zero releif with the sore throat.

I have 24 hour fatigue due to the sore throat, continous sleepiness and lack of concentration affecting personal and work life.

I sleep on a raised wedge pillow since 2 years, but that hasn't alleviated the problem.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't have pain anywhere else except the freaking throat.
I will be visiting an EENT soon!

another issue is that my mouth feels extremely dry at nights only and have to wake up several times to hydrate. nothing like this during day time. my mouth feels dry not long after I try to sleep

IT usually gets worse with eating, swallowing and talking because you are using those muscles  thtat are over stretched. It took  a long for a diagnosis because they thought I was neurotic.Did you go to a EYE,EAR,NOSE SPECIALIST,called an EENT specialist.Mine showed on a plain xray. Do you have any pain on your Carotid Artery in your neck?

Hello,

the throat is the worst in the morning. I don't feel like waking up and wish the night could continue forever!. it's very painful and fatigue-causing the morning... gets just a bit better by noon and in evening. However, heart burn sets up in the noon if I don't have the right things.

I've had 2 endoscopies done, they indicate minor inflammation of the esophagus. but the 2 ph tests and the LES pressure test came out very normal.

I am confused what could really set this right. Could it still be eagle's syndrome?

Does your throat pain ease off like after a good nights sleep?  My throat always seems better first thing in the morning and gets worse as the day goes by.  Does eating set it off?  I am convinced that there is something wrong with my swallower.  It feels like like I have a nail stuck and I can feel it when I swallow.
Joey54..Did you have an x-ray or what?  I did an x-ray that showed that my styloid process was ok.  I later found out that an X-ray will not work, and that a CAT scan was the only way to diagnose Eagles.

With the Eagle's  syndrome,my styloid process which is a bone off the skull and the hyoid bone  were too large and the EENT doctor reduced them with immediate relief

5 years of throat pain is 5 years to long.  I have been dealing with my lousy throat for 4 months and I am already at my whits end.  Doctors seem to be useless because there is nothing to see or detect.  I am finding that so far, there has  not been an effective pain med,  What have you tried so far?  I am seeing a pain specialist and he has me on morphine and soma,  not to good if one is trying to function.
I have already lost my job so kudos to you for keeping yours.

I am dealing with constant sore throat and vocal cord pain, by the end of the day talking hurts so badly. Also have chest and upper back pain. Am being treated for LPR (reflux in throat) but it is getting worse.
I am having gall bladder, thyroid tests and am going to ask my ENT about Eagles Syndrome. All of these affect the throat area, you really have to ask for these things to be done. When you leave the doctor's office -out of sight out of mind.
