Chronic Sore Throat

I have had a sore throat for about 2 months now. I originally was diagnosed with Strep throat (confirmed by a throat swab) and was placed on an antibiotic. It seemed to help, but now the sore throat has come back. I was tested for Mono which was negative.

It seems to bother me most at the end of the day. It's almost like my throat is sore from talking all day at work. I had another throat swab done and it was negative for Strep. I am concerned that this could be something more than just a sore throat.

Any ideas of what I could do?

I stumbled here looking to find a answer as I'm having the same issues Let me start from beginning.

I had a bad case of flu it lasted over a month and a half I went to doc multiple times they did throat and nasal swabs.

didn't hear anything back so went in again as I missed alot of work from being unable to function physically at my job. I took over the counter meds for the month and half I'm talking Buckley'd,benylyn,Neo Curran, Zinc tablets, tried the honey and tea with ginger,

None of that helped the constant coughing I was having I tried all those things to help ease the  symptoms of cough nausea weakness in muscles and the phlem that just wouldn't stop coming up with coughing fits that could last 10-20 seconds leaving me dizzy outa breathe and unable to swallow having to sput every few seconds was rough as it hurt too much to swallow any fluids.

Finally went back in 3rd visit to emergency they gave me tamiflu to try help it did next to nothing. I struggled another week no work barely any rest so I made another appointment got in they did blood work and a X-ray from there the doc seen a massive build up of phlem on both sides of my chest.

The doc in training wasn't going to give me anything as she thought it's just a post viral cough then the real doc came to check her work and said were going to give you a 5 day antibiotic to see how this works.

I went to pharmacist to get the prescription I waited 10 mins but I had to run to bathroom got sick washed mouth out. Something had to be wrong I told the pharmacist what happened he suggested taking these and plenty of fluids. I kinda couldn't rest as I had to attend my brothers wedding that day so I tested for a few hours after taking the 2 antibiotics.

On the way to wedding (hour away) I was coughing up a literal ton of phlem. I bought a Powerade just so I'd have something to rehydrate me. The first course of those antibiotics helped like night and day difference but the same side of throat is so taking Nepal numbing extra strength isn't working halls extra strength is almost like it's angering it more then helping it.

I stopped any dairy, bread, gluten, pop or sugars other then that from fresh local fruit veggies. Just in case it's any of those causing the problem. I'm able to work but pain is getting worse I work 7:30pm to 7:30 am and I'm finding the pain gets worse at 3am and by 7am it's almost unbearable I have since brought my green tea and manuka liquid honey to work to help it doesn't do much but it makes it tolerable till I get home and can take zquil to rest.

I have a follow up appointment July 5th if this isn't gone by then I'll ask plead for more lo her antibiotics as it was hard enough to get the 5 day course of them. And report back to update this to hopefully help someone.

I have had a recurring throat infection for over a month now. I've been on two courses of antibiotics and they helped but it keeps coming back.

My throat is not sore so much as swollen. It's painful, not in a raw/sore skin kind of way, but more like things being stretched out of place because there's a lump in my throat. Swallowing is the worst, I assume because the muscles aren't used to the swollen part.

I hope you find a solution.

I have had the same thing going on week 3!! I thought it was allergies at first, but after doing everything I could for it, allergy-wise, I looked on the internet and have been treating it as as inflamed Uvula.  Salt water gargled & hot tea with raw local honey.. It has eased off a bit,but I am still having symptoms, only not as bad starting around 6:30 or 7 om every night....I am getting very worried and scared because I am a vocalist. Following this post and if it is not COMPLETELY gone in a day or two, I'm heading to the doctor!  Following your post and will add to it, if I find anything else that is noteworthy... Best wishws and hopefully, all of us will find out what the heck is going on!

I have a very similar issue. The pain is deep down and doesn't effect me unless I swallow. It is worse in the evening and has been ongoing for 2 months. I am in Afghanistan right now and have not had access to medical facilities, but may make it to a hospital in the next week or so. I will let you know if I hear anything.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I was diagnosed with Strep Group C after a throat culture, Just finished 10 days of Penicillin, and nothing seems to have improved. My throat only hurts towards the evening and when I get up. This will mark a month of having this going on :(

Let me know if you find anything out

One thing I meant to mention is that it is painful the most when I swallow or yawn. I don't have much coughing going on. But do feel like I have a dry throat in the AM when I wake up.
