Click when swallowing

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me.  For a few weeks now I have this click in my throat when I swallow.  Not when I am drinking water or eating, but just during normal swallowing.  It doesn't click when my head is down or up, but it clicks when I am looking straight.  If I put my fingers just above adams apple I can feel a click.

Please help me to identify what it could be.

Thank you,
B

After reading it I think it is the only solution to the problem.

Good luck!
P.s.  I still have clicking.

Sounds like a thyroid disorder to me. I had the exact same sensation everytime i would swallow, among many other terrible symptoms, and finally got diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism. My thyroid was enlarged and my tsh level was 150. Started meds about 3 months ago and slowly starting to feel alive again. Hope this helps.

THANK YOU.

I had ADCF neck surgery in March, 2011 and have had this problem since a couple months after surgery.  Recently, my surgeon took an x-ray and told me the thyroid cartiledge looked calcified, and he ordered a swallow study which I will have in a week or so.  I suspect what you have talked about may be what is going on.  I can make my throat click by putting my neck in certain positions.  It all makes sense.

I'm wondering if when my surgery was done, things didn't get back into the right position afterwards (they move the entire throat area out of the way to get to the spine from the front of the neck).  I've been thinking it is scar tissue, or that there was damage done from surgical intubation.  This sounds more likely, and possibly even related, especially given my thyroid.

Have you heard of anyone having the following issues related to this?:

Esophagus feels swollen
Tight "swollen" muscles on the left side of my neck
Pain in the left ear
Constant pain in throat/neck to the left of the "click" (feels like a lesion)
Terrible headaches
Occipital pain

Can you guess from this that the click is on the left?

I am so grateful to know what this might be, as I am a singer and have been so worried I may not be able to sing well anymore.  I can't get to UCLA, but I will definitely read the studies and talk to my doctor about them.  The last thing I need is another surgery, but l will cross that bridge later if need be.

Thanks again.

I, too have this clicking in my throat. I ashes my doctor about it and he told me that it might be some bone but I can't remember what he meant. Anyhow my clicking is on the left side of my throat too. It drives me crazy.
