A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor with sore throat and 102 degree temp, and was told I had strep throat. I only had the pain on the right side of my throat when I swallowed that radiated to my right ear. The doctor put me on cephalexin for 10 days, by day 4 or 5 the sore throat was gone but I had severe swelling on my lower right gum area behind my last tooth. It hurt worse then the strep throat. I work in a hospital setting so I asked a doctor about it and he said the antibiotics should clear it up just fine, but gave me some lortab to get through the next couple days. I also went to the dentist just to make sure it was not a dental problem, he numbed the area and gave it a good cleaning. The next day the pain was gone. Two days later and one day left of antibiotics the left side began hurting just as bad, exact same symptoms, but it is getting worse, left ear and left side of the throat. I again called the doctor and was given a prescription for z-pack. Anybody have any ideas what is causing this, and what I can do for the pain, the motrin and oragel is just not working well enough, and I am starting to get hungry!!!
