I know this is an old post but i feel this sensation to except i havnt had turbinate reduction.I had a bad sinus infection for 5 months..the sensation started about 2 months into it..Eventially i had surgery to drain the sinus but nothing else.I thought this sensation would go away after surgery but it hasnt..The ENT Doc looked at me like i,m mad , telling me"your nose looks very healthy and by definition Empty nose symdrome is turbinate reduction or complete removal" He had no answer for me. Its a most annoying feeling..sometimes it panicks me and i shallow breath
Hi Mark,
I had septum deviation surgery, and with it I also had my turbinates reduced. I had the same burning sensation you are complaining, about 2 weeks after the surgery(which was in January) and had to put up with very cold air, when outside, e.g. 25 degrees. I'm not sure myself whether I have ENS, and I'm also looking into a clear, specific description and symptoms of it. You can check http://www.emptynosesyndrome.org for more info on ENS -- they also have a forum where people discuss symptoms.
Note that I did not have the burning sensation when breathing air at temps of 45 of more.
