You're more than welcome for the feedback.
I would definitely call your doctor regarding the amoxicillin and itching - it is possible that it is an allergic reaction. You can get an allergic reaction to anything even if you've taken it before. Just because you've been able to eat or take something in the past, it does not (unfortunately) preclude you from getting an allergic reaction to it another time.
I'm not sure if the pain would/could also be an allergic reaction or not - I do know that one time when I was prescribed Macrobid (also an antibiotic) after my hysterectomy, every time I would take it, I would start running a high fever (between 103-104) and have horrible muscle aches. I called my doctor and they told me to immediately stop the medication and to never take it again - apparently that IS a sign of an allergy to that particular medication. Obviously, I'm no doctor and I most certainly am not teling you that what you are experiencing IS an allergic reaction, but it is a possibiility.
If it's after hours for your doctor's office, if you place a call to your pharmacist and tell them about the pain and the itching, they may be able to tell you more definitively if it could be/is an allergic reaction. Pharmacists are very often much more knowledgeable about reactions and side effects of medication than our own doctors are.
I hope you start feeling better real soon!
Hi Geminigirl1963,
Thank you much for the prompt feedback.
I had fever about a week ago, that's why I went to see my doctor. He told me I didn't have a sore throat or ear infection but diagnosed me with acute sinusitis (after looking into my nose with a medical instrument).
I noticed that amoxicillin makes my skin itch just a tab bit...not sure it that's an allergic reaction or just a side effect of the antibiotic.
Thanks again!
It's very possible that you're feeling the muscle/joint pain due to the infection in your body - whenever you get a virus or infection, it can give you the achiness also. Are you running any fever? Did this pain begin only after you started the amoxicillin?
As it's been almost a week now since you saw your doctor, and you're still feeling so lousy, I would definitely suggest contacting him again and letting him know what's going on - it could be that you need a different antibiotic.
Best of luck!
