Hello and hope you are doing well.
His symptoms could be due to Keratosis Obturans, which is the building up of epithelial layer of the skin of the ear canal and the formation of a keratin plug. It requires regular life-long micro-suctioning of keratinous debris because of the failure of the normal migratory mechanism. It is treated conservatively by debridement of the external canal and application of topical medication. This is likely to cause tinnitus, which is perception of abnormal ear or head noises. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Thank you so much I just got your post I will try that thank you. Oh
Foul smelling discharge from the ear is usually a sign of infection or cholesteatoma.
Yellow or brown fluid is also a sign of infection and in persistent infections, the discharge may be stained with blood and is usually thick and sticky. In acute infections, the ear secretion may appear white.
Chronic otitis media may result in a persistent ear discharge and some of the other symptoms of an acute otitis media may not be present. Usually the discharge is yellow to brown and has a foul odor and can affect hearing and balance or may be reported as dizziness. Chronic otitis media is also called ‘glue ear’ due to the thick, sticky discharge.
Antibiotics may be necessary for long standing bacterial infections.
Corticosteroids may be necessary to reduce swelling and secretions.
Grommets ( also called tubes )may be inserted and this may also be necessary in children experiencing recurrent bouts of acute otitis media
I would probably consult with a different doctor if his isn't giving you any information. There is obviously something going on here that needs further attention. Has his doctor actually seen the discharge, or have you cleaned his ears before taking him in?
He needs to see an ENT ( ear, nose, throat doctor ) and perhaps an allergist, as this could be from allergies.
Something you can try at home:
Add 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to 1 teaspoon water. Have your son lay on his side. Using an eyedropper, place a few drops in his ear. Wait a few minutes and have him roll over to drain it out.
Do this to both ears twice a day.
