How long to cure with antibiotic?

On Monday I had a low grade fever (99.5), dizziness, and a dull ache in my right ear.  I was told by the Nurse Practitioner that I had fluid in both ears, and my right ear was infected.  She prescribed Amoxicillin 250mg capsules 3 times per day for 10 days.  On Wednesday, after 7 doses of Amoxicillin, my right (infected) ear was extremely itchy deep inside.
Is that normal?  What is that caused by?  (Why did it change from ache to itch?)  Now on Thursday, after even 2 more doses, my ear is still slightly itchy, and I still don't feel myself (somewhat tired and low-grade fever.)  How long do I give this antibiotic to fight the ear infection and help me to feel better?

Thanks for answering.

You might have a fungal infection. My kids and never take anti-biotics, we take anti-fungals they will fix anything from head and chest congestion to ring worms. In Sept 99 Mayo Clinic said 99%of cronic sinus infections are fungal. P-73.com is a good natural anti-fungal. Also try the nasal wash like Dr. Oz showed on Oprah. When you clean your sinusis out your ears pop and you can hear better

Thanks for your input, torque!   It is always reassuring to know that others have the same symptoms.  (I guess misery really does love company!)  After reading other user's questions though, I  feel petty seeking help on such a minor medical condition.  I get many ear infections as an adult (due to allergies),  but I never seem to get used to them, and each one effects me differently.  In this case, I don't know what is worse, the pain or the itch (or the feeling tired and feverish)......

From my own personal experiences, I can tell you I have had the same things. When I get the ear/sinus infections my ears will turn from ache to itch. I am really not sure what causes it, it just happens. My doc puts me on something a bit stronger than amoxicillin. If it is a 10day script, I would wait at least until Monday. When you have these infections they do a number on your body, and therefore takes awhile to make you feel better. I would definitely say, by Wednesday- if your symptoms arent cleared up, give them back a call. They might need to give you something a little bit stronger. Best of luck to you!!
