Sounds like you might have strep throat / throat infection. I had one recently, also started on the one side, was so sore that my gland swelled up and my ear was killing me. Made an appointment to see doc immediately as I could feel it wasn't going to miraculously get better. Doc put me on antibiotics and within a few days it felt so much better. Infection can cause your glands to swell up bad, and when glands are swollen in your neck, it often causes pain when you move your neck or touch the gland with your fingers. Yup I agree with Evie, check your throat for little white spots... if you have tonsils the spots will be on them or if not, they will be on the back of your throat.

Get better soon! :-)

I had the exact same symptoms before going to the doc and finding out I had Tonsilitis.  Try looking at the back of your throat with a flashlight in front of a mirror.  If you see white spots on your tonsils or throat that's a sign of infection and you should see a doctor.

The first thing that comes to mind is swollen lymph node(s). This typically happens when you're sick or getting sick and your body is fighting off an infection. There could be other reasons of course, so if it persists you could see a doctor. Some throat sprays might help to relieve the pain as well.
