Maxillary Sinus Mucus Retention Cyst

I'm wondering if anyone has had the endoscopy surgery for removing the mucus retention cyst in the maxillary sinus. If so -- what was the outcome? Was it successful?

I've had reoccurring sinus infections (3 in the past year). I no longer have the infection but I have CONSTANT post nasal drip. It happens everyday, particularly in the afternoon/evening. When it gets really bad, I get a sore throat or feel nauseous and my voice is always hoarse. One ENT suggested it was allergies. I tried: nasonex, afrin, mucinex-d, claritin, allegra, zyrtec, flonase, etc. Another ENT thought it was acid reflux. I tried: prilosec for 14 days, nexium for 3 days (I had too many side effects from nexium so I discontinued it). I had no symptoms of acid reflux so I felt there was no point to take these meds, but I tried anyway with no success.

I got a CT scan and they found there was a cyst in my left maxillary sinus and mucus thickening in the ethmoid on the same side. This cyst is covering about 80% of the maxillary sinus.

I know that not a lot of doctors recommend getting surgery to remove a mucus retention cyst, but I feel like it is contributing to the problem. I have more post nasal drip on my left side (I can actually see it dripping in the back of my throat), the lining on the inside of my left nostril seems to be more swollen than the right, and this is VERY strange, but I've been experiencing severe tingling on my left chest area.I have occasional headaches and I feel tired all the time. I am also on maintenance level for allergy shots. Has anyone experienced these symptoms and found a cure? Or has anyone had successful surgery or a bad experience they would like to share? I'm about to resort to surgery if I can't find anything else to cure it.

But how do I know if there is actual blockage from the mucus retention cyst? I don't know if it is actually blocking drainage since I can breathe just fine.

Also, my ethmoid sinus on the same side has a lot of mucus thickening -- is this related to the maxillary sinus cyst?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Clearing the blockage to the sinus may help relieve symptoms from sinusitis. If the sinuses drain adequately, this may help clear up secretions and hence prevent repeated infections. The cyst can also be removed in the process.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
