Myringotomy Complications

After having a myringotomy, two weeks later, one side still  felt blocked, muffled, and sinuses on that side were irritated, ENT gave me antibiotics, and nasal inhaler. Sinuses are better,but ear doesn't clear when I close nostril and blow out, hearing is muffled, still have popping in the one ear. Any ideas? Is it possible that the tube is clogged or crimped or not placed properly??? Please HELP!!!!!!!!, I'm losing my mind!!!!!!

Just  hate these tubes!! mine have been nothing but trouble,I plan to get them out in Aug. It now is going on a year and I don't think that will fall out on their own,my left ear does pop off and on and I thought it was suppose too! but from what you said, maybe it not suppose too.

Do you feel that your voice sounds like you are talking under water and other also?mine still do and its has been one year now! the only thing that helps me is wearing my hearing aids.

Ent relented and gave me Ciprodex ear drops. Began using 3 daya ago, they seem to help, especially first 2days, but the antibiotics I was on at the time, the prescribed term to use them was up! Now the drops don't seem as effective??? In the interim saw my family doctor, she looked in both ears, said the one ear, ear dum is clear, like saran wrap, the ear that I'm having the problem with, she said looks pink and thicker, she didn't seem to have an answer!!! Any ideas??? This is really maddening and uncomfortable, weird on the one side of my head, popping, clicking, fullness in ear constantly!!! Incedently I sincerely appreciate the help you've offered.I think the tube is infected or the fluid is somehow trapped!!Thanks again for any input

Maybe you should get a second opinion from another ENT.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

It could be that there is persisting fluid or infection in the ear. This could be causing your symptoms. But as the tubes are patent, it should drain. So, continue with the medications and follow the instructions given by your doctor, it will resolve.

If it persists you may need the antibiotics to be changed. Good Luck.

Returned  to ENT , asked about debrediment, etc., he said tube is clear. I've been on antibiotic and nasal steroid since I had this procedure. The one ear is still popping, clicking, one side of head feels weird, worse than before I had this done!!! Steam helps a little, only briefly. Is it possible the one tube is placed improperly or there is fluid around the tube?? When he did this , he didn't suction out the side I'm having a problem with? He even told me a significant amount of flud came out!!!!??? Could this have any thing to do with this. Still offbalance, please help. Thank You

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Was the myringotomy done on both the ears? The popping and the hearing loss could indicate that the tubes are blocked. The tubes can be opened by antibiotic or steroid drops. Sometimes microscopic debridement is done to open up the tubes. Check with your doctor regarding this.
