Persistent sore throat

Hi! I have a lump on one side of my throat and it's causing me much discomfort. I can barely swallow and even speak when it gets worse. May I ask what illness this may be? Could it be tonsillitis or even throat cancer? I was born w big tonsils and I smoke occasionally. Thank you!
