Please help me.

It all happened so suddenly. My neck started to hurt, then my glands began to swell, but my throat doesn't hurt. Then I noticed blood in my mucus and it smells funny. My ears started to hurt and leak some sort of clear discharge. I've been running a high temperature. Its reached 102.9 twice in the paast 12 hours. What is wrong with me? Please help me.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics.

There are tubes called 'Eustachian  tubes' which connect the middle ear to the throat, this balances the air pressure in the ears. These tube can get  blocked due to infections of the throat, which can give lead to an infection in the ears.

Consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests and take a swab to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medications. In the meantime for pain relief you can use OTC  tylenol (acetaminophen). Also, steam inhalations and warm salt water gargles can help clear the tube.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Go to your ENT asap. You have infection. The sooner the better. Do not put anything on your ear for some of this drugs are ototoxic. Don't waste time, setup an appointment asap. Hope you feel better.
