What kinds of problems can arise from repeated surgery (polyp removal)? My doc failed to mention anything about risks.
Thanks
It depends...I know that for turbinate reductions some ENTs sometimes use lasers or somnoplasty (radio waves.) For actual structural changes they still need to cut and break, I believe.
In the end, it's really up to the ENT and also insurance approval. A lot of insurances won't cover somnoplasty, for example. I don't think there's been enough long-term research to determine if lasers or radio waves are any more long-term effective than regular cutting.
I'm having inflammation problems again, 8 years after and excellent septoplasty cleared everything up (or so I thought!) My ent is trying to avoid another surgery and is having me try nasal sprays instead. Or I may just live with it. I'm undecided (too much surgery can cause even worse problems than just living with the original problem!)
