Soapy, Perfume Taste in Mouth

What causes you to have a soapy, kind of perfume taste in your mouth?  It is driving me crazy. Plus, my tongue has been getting sore and swelling. It will turn beet red  and get very thick. It is very irritating.

The beefy red swollen tongue is from a major B vitamin deficiency.  Use wheat germ you can buy it in a bottle on the cereal shelf and keep it in the refrigerator.  Get some supplemental brewers yeast powder at the health food store to up your intake of B vitamins and use B complex temporarily as it is not balanced so you don't want to use it for much over a week.  You can read about this in Adelle Davis's books Let's Eat Right to Keep Fit and Let's Get Well, still available used on the internet.  The perfume taste is in your mucus, certain ingredients in mints and throat lozenges can give you this taste and it takes up to ten days for it to go away.  Yesterday I came in from work and there was this sweet smell in the air which I breathed and now I have the taste.  I don't know where the smell came from, possibly a skunk spray even up to a mile away blown by the wind.  Just waiting for the taste to go away, eating some steamed onion helps it for about an hour.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Tongue irritation could be due to local or systemic causes. Local causes like tooth infections, tooth abscess or periodontal disease. Some medications like dilantin and calcium channel blockers like nifedipine can cause these symptoms. It can also occur due to salivary gland disorders like Sjogren's syndrome, where there is inadequate secretion of saliva and tongue irritation. You will need to consult your dentist who will examine you and determine the cause so that appropriate therapy can be initiated.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
